Intern, Inclusive Youth Leadership

Duration: Minimum 3 – 6 months, starting 1 March 2022 (Monthly stipend of SGD800 provided)

Location: Hybrid (Remote and in-person)

About Special Olympics Asia Pacific:

Dedicated to transforming the lives of persons with intellectual disabilities and the communities in which they live, Special Olympics engages persons with intellectual and developmental disabilities globally in year-round sports, health screenings and follow-up care, leadership training, youth advocacy and inclusive education.

A major focus of the Asia Pacific Regional Office is to engage young people with and without intellectual and developmental disabilities from across the region and empower them to promote social inclusion in their communities.

Learning opportunities:

  • Contribute to fostering inclusive societies through direct involvement with youth with and without intellectual disabilities from across Asia Pacific
  • Develop virtual resource development, event management and inter-cultural communication skills through interactions with international participants and stakeholders
  • Hone grant administration and resource organisation skills
  • Gain first-hand insights on how programmes are designed and managed across the region

Responsibilities:

  • Grant administration to promote inclusive youth leadership in the region
  • Liaise with key stakeholders from across Asia Pacific and Headquarters (Washington DC)
  • Help develop learning resources to promote the development of inclusive youth leadership in local communities
  • Support the organisation and running of regional events and meetings
  • All other tasks as assigned
  • Overtime and work on weekends may be required for events
  • Intern will be expected to work using his/her own computer/equipment

Required skills/traits:

  • Interest in working with marginalised populations, youth and/or disability
  • Eager to learn, collaborative and takes initiative
  • International outlook and experience
  • Demonstrated administrative skills
  • Attention to detail and well-organised
  • Familiarity with utilising technology to facilitate dialogue and improve work processes
  • Solid experience with virtual event planning, learning resource development and social media engagement
  • Strong verbal, written and inter-cultural communication skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox, Teams, Canva, Zoom
