Graphic Designer
Reports to: Director of Communications
Basic Function: The Graphic Designer will serve as the Society’s in-house design shop. This position will develop and design all publications, graphics and logos used by the Society and its supporting foundation.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee design of SPJ’s member magazine, Quill, which is published four times a year.
- Create all marketing collateral for SPJ’s various awards programs (logos, graphics, brochures, etc.).
- Design all collateral related to SPJ’s annual conference (logos, graphics, programs, brochures, signage, etc).
- Create all collateral related to SPJ’s training programs, membership and supporting foundation (logos, graphics, brochures, etc.).
- Produce print/web ads for Quill, conference program guide and website that promote various programs and services for SPJ and the SPJ Foundation.
- Design and oversee SPJ’s merchandise.
- Create and adhere to production schedules and deadlines – in conjunction with project managers.
- Some travel will be required (annual conference).
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- B.A. or equivalent in Graphic Design is preferred.
- Minimum of two years of design experience.
- Proficient with Macintosh computers in an OSX environment and current design programs, including Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign.
- Strong organizational skills and an ability to handle multiple tasks under tight deadlines is essential.
- Strong, demonstrated understanding of social media and emerging technology.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Strong communication skills and professional demeanor.
- A background in magazine design preferred.
- Internet design and banner ad creation a plus.
Employment Type: Full-time
Location: The SPJ national office is located in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Graphic Designer may work remotely from any location in the United States and may be asked to attend events in Indianapolis 1-2 times per year.

Compensation: Salary for this position is commensurate on experience. SPJ provides excellent benefits. Medical, dental, and vision is primarily covered by SPJ for our employees. SPJ also has a 6% 401k match and paid leave.
