Manager of Community Relations

The Manager, Community Relations (MCR) manages Family Engagement, Partnership and Policy. The MCR understands and holds the big picture of who KairosPDX is in the community and how it functions as a school that is more than a school.The MCR ensures that the Family Engagement, Partnership and Governance/ Advocacy & Policy is managed with excellence. The MCR nurtures relationships between external partners, community-based partnerships, family and local and state leaders.

This position requires an extremely perceptive person capable of relating to individuals at all levels within the organization. The MCR must be sensitive to KairosPDX needs, employee goodwill and the organization mission, values, and operational needs. This position has direct supervisory responsibilities for the Family Engagement, Partnerships and Governance staff.

Manager Community Relations Core Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a warm, welcoming and collaborative environment for KairosPDX families, external partners and community-based partnership and local and state leaders.
  • Supervise Communication, Staff Coordination and Data Management across all Community Relations Areas:
  • Work with Coordinators on key messaging in all newsletters and social media; 
  • Knit together all community relations events across calendar year and organization;
  • Support all communication for family engagement activities & events;
  • Ensure KairosPDX database is updated with ongoing communications with families, teachers and partners to enable consistent support for families and staff;
  • Ensure proper grant submissions and reporting on all grants, contracts and investments related to community relations;
  • Ensure tracking of all in-kind donations of goods & services from parameters & investors;
  • Ensure all SOPs are being followed across all Community Relations including: Spread the Love event attendees, grants, business relationships, political relationships and individual investors, Community Action Sessions (CAS) and Training Academy relationships;
  • Support Steering Committee of Family Council and participate in Leadership Meetings as needed;
  • Collaborate with SUN Manager for family and student support services;
  • Manage in collaboration with implementation of Learning Academy community partnerships programs such as Trillium, OMSI, Community Action Sessions & SUN;
  • Oversee all partnership at KairosPDX(Learning Academy, Training Academy, early learning programming and policy/advocacy) programs:
  • Maintain relationships and strategic opportunities with existing partners;
  • Oversee all partnership outreach to corporations, nonprofits, businesses and
  • other organizations to gain new partnerships and sustainable volunteer groups;
  • Develop procedure to manage intake process for new partners and volume of
  • partners and manage partnership life cycles.
  • Participate in policy agenda for KairosPDX at key community and leadership tables;
  • Work with Elected leaders and key CBO staff on collective policy work impacting the Black community;
  • Build relationships with key partners in policy and advocacy work tracking key legislative bills;
  • Oversee documenting, researching, and preparing presentations and briefing sheets on core policy issues;
  • Oversee research and evaluation of family advocacy/engagement and the processes;
  • Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings and seminars.
  • Attend several KairosPDX staff and family events
  • Participate in continuous improvement practices including observations, reflections and collaborations
  • Participation in professional development and trainings;

Education & Experience:

  • BA preferred;
  • Minimum three years of experience required (working in school, nonprofit, or community setting); five + years preferred
  • Proven work experience in Community Relations, Partnership, Policy or similar role
  • One year relevant experience working with families from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds
  • Prior school or education reform experience preferred
  • Managerial experience preferred

Salary and Benefits

  • Salary: $58K – $72K, depending on experience
  • Benefits include: Up to three weeks of school closure breaks, paid sick/personal leave days, paid holidays, participation in Public Employees Retirement System (PERS), employer contribution for health insurance, professional development opportunities.
