What are Medical Coders?

Medical Coders organize and manage health information data by ensuring that it maintains its quality, accuracy, accessibility, and security in both paper files and electronic systems. They use various classification systems to code and categorize patient information for insurance reimbursement purposes, for databases and registries, and to maintain patients’ medical and treatment histories.

Medical Coders are in high demand given today’s advancements in medical technology. Between 2018 and 2028, the demand for Coders is expected to grow 11%*, which is faster than the national average for most occupations.

Applicants will need a High School Diploma or GED to be accepted into the training program and must have completed a Certified Coding program with proof of successful completion or current AHIMA or AAPC credential required. Applicants must be able to commit up to 40 hours per week.
