Zumiez is seeking a Product Developer for the licensing division of our Private Label department to join us in making crazy amazing product. This position will work in collaboration with our Merchandising, Development and Production teams, while being a point of contact regarding the execution of licensed product development. Our ideal candidate has a proven background in Technical Design and Apparel design, with a touch of production. We'll need you to know what it takes to make a great jacket or pair of pants that fit like a glove, why it is constructed that way-and what you can do to make it more cost effective.
In addition, you live by the TACS & know the product cycle from concept-to-consumer like you know the smell of bacon.
Lastly, (because we are kind of needy) You are a self-starter, obnoxious level of attention to detail, organization, and a passion for seeing a project from start to finish. Can you navigate Illustrator and Excel like the menu at Starbucks? If your answer is yes, then keep reading!

You know how to:
- Manage product development through each aspect of tech pack/point of measurement/BOM creation, fit & development.
- Measure samples and document all measurements and styling / construction differences based off of tech pack.
- Accurately understand and interpret design concepts for materials sourcing to effectively communicate with overseas vendors.
- Accurately understand and interpret design concepts from Brand partners, and execute into collections for presentation as needed.
- Understand and accurately identify trend as it relates to Brand, and provide executable translation into seasonal product offerings.
- Participate in fit sessions with a live model, and multiple attendees.
- Identify, improve, correct and relay fit, spec and construction issues through written comments and illustrations to overseas factories where English is a second language.
- Build & maintain multiple season tracking reports
You'll need to:
- Maintain new proto sample log in & preparation (checking matrix, pulling and reviewing technical packages)
- Attend milestone design meetings, take notes and execute development cycle each season
- Prepare and track timely receipt of samples to our Internet division for e-shop photo-shoots, catalogue shoots, brand reference samples, marketing samples, etc.
- Track and maintain all fit/development samples.
- Review weekly TAC & Adhere to and communicate product development time lines.
- Proactively recognize TAC timing issues to prevent delays or oversights.
- Meet established due dates based off multiple department calendars.
You Have:
- At least 3-5years Experience in a product development environment with a proficient knowledge of technical design, design, and an understanding of graphic design.
- You have a solid understanding of the production cycle and TAC's.
- Proficient level understanding of Microsoft Office, especially Outlook & Excel for Mac
- Proficient level understanding of Adobe Illustrator CC /Adobe Photoshop
- Proficient understanding of specs, point of measurements, and garment construction.
- Basic understanding of patternmaking required. Ability to create and revise patterns makes you a rock star.
- Understanding of fabric characteristics, and ability to distinguish between different knit and weave types.
- You are as creative as you are logical.
- College degree or equivalent with course work in merchandising, design, technical design/patternmaking/ apparel manufacturing or related experience
- Experience working/communicating with overseas factories or agents
- Effective, Consistent, Clear Communication with an understanding of working with different types of personalities is a must!
- Ability to take initiative and identify priorities to maintain deadlines are achieved.
- Ability and willingness to work hard in a fast -paced, multi-tasking, team oriented environment.
- Sense of humor and fun. Bonus if you love animals, food, action sports and your mom.
