The Timing Operations Administrator position is an opportunity for aspiring candidates to assist with the implementation of the new Pitch Timer in Major League Baseball.

In this position, the Timing Operations Administrator will assist in daily monitoring of the Pitch Timer, track key data points such as Pitch Timer violations and perform other administrative duties related to the Pitch Timer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist the Timing Operations Manager with the operation of the Pitch Timer during Major League games
  • Communicate with umpires and Field Timing Coordinators (“FTC”) during play to ensure consistent and accurate operation of the timer
  • Assist in training sessions with FTCs, and other on-field personnel during the offseason and Spring Training
  • Help track day-to-day communication with Clubs and Umpires regarding the Pitch Timer
  • Create daily and weekly reports to be distributed internally within the Commissioner’s Office, Umpires and FTC’s
  • Collaborate with departments across the Commissioner’s Office to provide support for day-to-day operations and relevant projects
  • Other projects as assigned by the On-Field Operations department

Requirements:

  • Must be extremely detail oriented
  • Must be able to work independently as well as in a team environment
  • Must be able to communicate clearly, multitask, and prioritize responsibilities
  • Must be able to handle live, fast-paced, and high-pressure situations
  • Must be able to act professionally with and around MLB Umpires and MLBOC employees
  • Strong knowledge of MLB rules, Replay Regulations and baseball specific language
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Outlook

Nice-to-Have Skills (Not required):

  • Previous experience working in baseball
  • The ability to identify MLB players and managers
  • Experience with SQL, R or Python
  • PowerPoint

Schedule:

  • Candidate can work 30 – 38 hours a week
  • Schedule flexibility (weekends / evening availability required)

 Per the NYC pay transparency law, the hiring range for this position is an hourly rate of $25.00 to $27.50 The actual offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your work experience, education, skills and any other factors Major League Baseball (MLB) considers relevant to the hiring decision.
