Core Responsibilities
The System & Material Governance is a department where the key focus is to champion the LEGO Building System (DUPLO, LEGO and Technic), and govern the architecture of the platforms and systems, to develop, maintain and optimize the compatibility and values of the LEGO bricks (elements). This area is key to innovating and protecting our core values – as all elements equally have the power to enable the System-in-Play philosophy.
- Conduct ongoing coaching in different novelty projects, setting expectations and directions and at the end approve the LEGO bricks.
- Being approachable and visible towards Design and Engineering projects that are working with the development of LEGO bricks, ensuring a great and smooth collaboration across function areas.
- Manages request and changes ex. from Sustainable Material Program, Supply Chain and production on LEGO bricks.
- Develop new standards, matrix overviews, system guidelines and rules for the LEGO Building System.
- Act as a true brand ambassador for the LEGO DNA, by prioritizing our Legacy and thereby building and play experiences.

The System & Material Governance department is a part of LEGO Design organization that consists of a dynamic, creative and collaborative culture. No two projects are the same, and they all require different needs and expertise.
What is special and different about this role?
Master to be both multidisciplinary and meticulous - in your role as Coach you need to comprehend the complexity of the Building System in a well-rounded manner, and at the same time be able to dive into the technical details of every single element we are part of developing.
Moreover,
- Bringing ideas and designs into real LEGO bricks
- Broad interactions with team members on many different levels, ex Design and Engineer Directors, Managers and Specialists.
- Be the interlink between the Product Development area and the Supply Chain in Operation, ensuring focus on Design for Manufacturing and Manufacturing for Design.
- Lead sustainable agenda points and projects between Design and Operations.
Do you have what it takes?
You probably hold a background or experience on Engineering or Industrial Design or similar/equivalent.
We would expect proven experience putting these competencies into good use:
- Experiences within a product development area
- 3D drawing competences and technical 2D drawing
- Very good communications and coaching skills
- Can adapt to strategies and are able to present as well communicate a direction to peers
- Good analytic and system thinking skills
- Use your courage, initiative, good sense of humor and professional demeanor to keep up the good atmosphere and the high level in the department
