About the Opportunity
The Victorian Government’s North East Link Program is Victoria’s biggest road project that will fix the missing link in Melbourne’s freeway network. The project will connect the Eastern Freeway to the M80 Ring Road with new twin tunnels, taking 15,000 trucks a day off local roads, slashing travel times by up to 35 minutes and create new open spaces and walking and cycling connections for local communities.
The project includes a massive overhaul of the Eastern Freeway, creating new express lanes and Melbourne’s first dedicated busway with two new park and ride facilities improving access to public transport in the eastern suburbs. Laing O’Rourke are working with North East Link Program, Symal, Arcadis and WSP to develop and deliver value-for-money engineering solutions for North East Link Program’s South Package, which includes Eastern Freeway upgrades between Burke Road and Tram Road including major bridge upgrades, road upgrades, lane duplications, a new interchange connecting to the North East Link Tunnels and new and upgraded walking and cycling connections and open spaces.
About the Role
We are currently seeking a Senior Safety Advisor - Systems & Assurance to join us on the Eastern Freeway Burke to Tram Road project. This is your opportunity to join a long term Big Build Project and contribute to the largest investment in Melbourne’s North East.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor the Safety Systems and Assurance Coordinator, providing guidance and support to ensure project success.
- Develop, maintain, and enhance project HS&W Management Plans and related sub-plans in collaboration with the broader HS&W team.
- Assist in the development and continuous improvement of HS&W standards and processes to ensure project compliance with client obligations, contractual requirements, and regulatory standards.
- Coach and mentor project personnel on HS&W matters, including client contractual obligations.
- Collaborate with the Quality Lead to develop audit schedules, oversee HS&W audits, and support the project in resolving and closing out any resulting actions.
- Evaluate and ensure project compliance with HS&W legislation and related client procedures.
- Conduct or coordinate risk assessment and system improvement workshops, with a focus on Occupational Health & Safety.
- Ensure HS&W documentation and information are accurately maintained and communicated to enhance project-wide HS&W communication.
- Administer and oversee Alliance safety systems, ensuring data quality and integrity.
- Monitor performance against the HS&W Activity Schedule and manage associated governance and assurance activities.
About You
- Demonstrated previous experience in a systems or governance role.
- Experience leading, coaching and mentoring a team.
- Formal qualification in H&S (preferred).
- Lead Auditor (preferred).
