Your Opportunity
The Quality and Safety Coordinator provides responsive and high‐level Quality Management and Workplace Health & Safety advice and services to Centacare North Queensland. The role is diverse in that it monitors, develops and implements standard, legislative, system and process changes relating to Employment, Workplace Health and Safety, Human Rights, Disability Services, and Auditing Compliance across various streams and industries. The position is responsible for the organisation’s Quality Management and Continuous Improvement Systems, Workplace Health and Safety, and overseeing external service delivery Audits and internal Auditing. This position sits within the People and Culture (P&C) team reporting to the Manager People and Culture. The position holds an additional reporting line to the Executive Director for matters solely client‐related and matters with significant organisational impact.
Department Overview
The Corporate Services Department delivers essential corporate, financial, and administrative necessary for Centacare NQ to function effectively and promote the overall organisational focus on excellence in the delivery of social services to the local region. The Corporate Services Department is responsible for major corporate functions including financial, WHS, human resources services, and overseeing key governance functions such as risk, audit, privacy, and ethical standards. As part of the Corporate Services Department, the People and Culture team includes a broad range of key functions including Human Resources, Payroll, Workplace Health & Safety, and Quality Management Systems.

About the Position
The Quality and Safety Coordinator oversees three functions of the organisation: Workplaces Health & Safety (WHS), Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Audit compliance. The position supports, maintains and oversees compliance of these functions across the organisation and is responsible for reviewing, developing and/or maintaining policies, standards and frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
Workplace Health and Safety (WH&S)
- Point of authority on all Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) related matters and relevant legislation.
- Inspect workplaces and workplace equipment, to ensure they meet safety regulations and to identify hazards and risks.
- Investigate, identify, and monitor organisational and Workplace Health and safety risks, including investigation of incidents and unsafe working situations and recommend remedial action in line with best practice and post incident review processes.
- Promote and develop WHS information and education material within Centacare NQ with a focus on developing safer working environment and practices.
- Collaboratively work with management and senior leadership to undertake risk assessments facilitate risk mitigation strategies and provide advice on practical and preventative changes to policies and guidelines.
- Proactively managing the relationship, and provision of services by the external Fire Safety Advisor to ensure organisational compliance with section 34 of the Building Fire Safety Regulation.
- Act as Return to Work Coordinator (RRWC) with managing WorkCover claims and non‐work related suitable duties plans and coordinating RRWC cases.
Quality Management Systems (QMS)
- Identify new or updated legislative requirements to advise, develop, and assist management with their implementation requirements.
- Development and management of all internal Corporate and Service delivery Quality systems and documentation.
- Conduct or coordinate organisational Complaint and Incident investigation and report findings to management.
- Monitor and update corporate registers and conduct quarterly data and trend analysis reports for management.
- Manage the ongoing maintenance and review of the organisation’s Quality Management System (QMS).
- Support and help develop a Quality Management culture across the organisation.
Audit Coordination, Compliance and Implementation
- Oversee and coordinate external service Audits, including coordination of resources and facilities required to conduct audits.
- Support and conduct internal audits ensuring that workplaces and practices conform with procedures and safety, standards legislative / funding body requirements.
- Act as Privacy Officer for the organisation.
- Develop and conduct relevant training for all levels of employees within the scope of the functions of the role.
- Occasional travel to rural and remote offices to provide training, conduct site audits, assessments and inspections, and in support of ensuring a presence of corporate roles at these sites.
- Proactively participate as a member of the P&C team to support the delivery of a collaborative, streamlined and engaging P&C service to the rest of the organisation.
- Commitment to the mission, values, organisational goals, policy and procedures of Centacare NQ.
- Ensure all duties and functions of the role are carried out within a continuous improvement framework.
- Participate and contribute to line management meetings, supervision, team meetings and staff days as required.
To ensure job flexibility the role may be required to perform any other duties as nominated by Centacare North Queensland consistent with the classification descriptors detailed in the Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services Industry Award 2010.
Desired Skills and Experience
To be successful in the role you will have:
- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to the completion of a degree with subsequent relevant experience.
- Extensive experience and technical knowledge in WHS and Quality Assurance (or Quality Management Systems) in a social services or similar setting.
- Demonstrated interpersonal, high‐level oral communication and client service skills including the ability to clearly communicate, consult, negotiate and liaise with individuals both internal and external to the organisation in achieving business outcomes.
- Proven results in delivering and embedding safety and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Evidence of innovative approaches to problem‐solving and contribution to an agenda of continuous improvement in operational processes through future‐focused thinking.
- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41415) or WHSO Certification, or willingness and eligibility to obtain.
- Current open driver licence. Current, or ability to obtain both a Working with Children Blue Card check and a Disability Worker Screening.
Desirable
- Certificate IV or equivalent experience in Training and Assessment.
- Fire Safety Advisor Certificate, or ability and willingness to obtain.
- Demonstrated experience of designing and delivering training.
