Senior Software Quality Engineer - Mobile
Capital One is looking for a Senior Software Quality Engineer (SQE) to join one of our mobile engineering teams, based in our London office.
What you’ll do:
- Lead system-level quality engineering and delivery in a cross-functional mobile engineering team to deliver high quality solutions that improve outcomes for our customers.
- Lead the test strategy, identifying testing requirements, which may include scoping automation or manual testing of complex systems.
- Coaching and mentoring engineers with respect to best practices in delivering quality outcomes.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement including focus on stability of environments, CI/CD tooling and more.
- Elevate quality within the Capital One Android and iOS mobile apps, working across multiple engineering teams.
- Provide qualitative feedback to stakeholders, so that informed decisions can be made.
What we’re looking for:
- An experienced adaptable leader with a passion for quality and a strong quality mindset. You will have a broad background in technology, strong technical awareness and problem-solving skills, with the ability to be hands-on where appropriate.
- Strong experience and confidence with modern testing techniques. Understanding what, how and when they should be applied and why.
- A strategic thinker, who understands the importance of balancing the business needs alongside the technical risk. Ensuring risks are understood and mitigated appropriately.
- The primary languages of our mobile quality engineers are Kotlin and Swift - the ideal candidate will already be confident with these languages in the context of writing automated tests. However, experience and knowledge of any Object Oriented language will be appropriate.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to read the room and adapt style to situation and audience.
- Collaborative team player who can take people both inside and outside the team on a journey, to solve significant problems.
- A desire to have a proactive positive impact on the engineering community and system to grow a quality culture.
- A demonstrated ability and track record for leading and delivering quality software when faced with challenging circumstances.
What you’ll get to learn (any previous experience would be advantageous):
- The cloud (AWS) and how we use it in a highly regulated environment.
- Modern languages like Kotlin and Swift.
- Frameworks including Espresso, XCUITest, RestAssured and Gatling.
- A strong CI/CD and test excellence culture.
- Mobile Device testing.
- Progressing developed software through appropriate test stages and to final release.
- Becoming a subject matter expert for our mobile applications.
- Working with third-party vendor systems.
Where and how you'll work:
This is a permanent position and is based in our London office. We have a hybrid working model which gives you flexibility to work from our offices and from home. We’re big on collaboration and connection, so you’ll be based in our office 3 days a week on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.
