OUR STANDARDS
For over 175 years, the people of The Associated Press have had the privilege of bringing news and information to the world. We have gone to great lengths, overcome great obstacles — and, too often, made great sacrifices — to ensure that the news was reported quickly, accurately and factually, in a balanced and unbiased way. We are transparent about our news values and principles, which guide all AP journalists.
OUR HISTORY
Since 1846, we have been breaking news and covering the world’s biggest stories, always committed to the highest standards of accurate, unbiased journalism. We were founded as an independent news cooperative, whose members are U.S. newspapers and broadcasters, steadfast in our mission to inform the world. To this day, AP remains independent, beholden only to the facts. From delivering the news via pony express in 1846 to working with artificial intelligence today, we are always innovating to provide fast and factual news and information.

From New York to London, from Beirut to Bangkok, our teams around the world strive for excellence, inside and outside the newsroom. Our journalists go to great lengths, often overcoming tremendous obstacles, to report the news quickly, accurately and honestly, with the utmost attention paid to AP’s high standards.
The AP is governed by a leadership team and board of directors. Every day, all of our employees work toward our mission of advancing the power of facts.
OUR CAUSES
We have been leading the media industry since our founding in 1846, championing journalism across the globe. We are fierce advocates of press freedom, journalist safety and intellectual property protection. In 2005, we established the AP Emergency Relief Fund to help our colleagues around the world when they are affected by conflict and disaster.
OUR ACHIEVEMENTS
AWARDS AND RECOGNITION
The outstanding work of our journalists has been recognized with numerous awards. We’ve won 59 Pulitzer Prizes, including 36 for photography, since the award was established in 1917.
