Job Location: Raleigh, NC Department: Enterprise Application Services About the Department	 Enterprise Application Services (EAS) is in the Office of Information Technology (OIT) division at North Carolina State University. EAS is responsible for the design, development, implementation, integration, operation, enhancement, maintenance and configuration management of the University's enterprise business applications, data warehouses, business intelligence/analytics platforms, and databases. Supported enterprise administrative systems and associated databases include: the Financial, HR, and Student Information Systems; MyPack Portal; the non-credit education system; business intelligence platforms; and the research administration system. Essential Job Duties: Enterprise Application Services (EAS) in the Office of Information Technology seeks an Enterprise Data Warehouse Architect and Development Lead. This position leads the technical design, development, implementation, enhancement, and operation of the University's centralized repository of enterprise data assets. The position is responsible for designing and maintaining an efficient and scalable enterprise data warehouse solution that enables business intelligence and analytics solutions that provide actionable data to campus. The Data Warehouse Architect partners with various stakeholders, business leaders, enterprise application developers, data analysts, and BI content developers to ensure that the data warehouse provides the foundation needed for data-driven decision-making across the University. Hybrid remote and on-site work location options are available. Other Responsibilities	 Data Warehouse Design and Development: • Design, implement, and manage a data warehouse architecture as a foundation for analytics development, working with the analytics platform administrators and analytics development teams to optimize structures for ease of use, flexibility, and scalability • Collaborate with business SMEs, data analysts, data scientists, and BI content developers to understand core business requirements and translate them into data warehouse design technical specifications • Design and lead development of the data warehouse architecture, including data models, data marts, ETL processes, data lake, integrations and pipelines, etc. The architecture should be scalable to meet new needs as they arise and components should be reusable, with a focus on single source of truth (SSOT) outcomes • Create and maintain thorough documentation of the warehouse and data mart architecture with conceptual/physical models and ERDs • Optimize data models and warehouse architecture for performance and scalability, working in close collaboration with peers in EAS, including database administrators and enterprise system developers and administrators • Maintain a thorough knowledge of toolsets and technologies that are available for data warehousing and processing, and work with management to create a technology roadmap and strategy to best meet the University's future needs Team Leadership and Standards: • Lead and manage the software development lifecycle related to the data warehouse and create standard operating procedures • Guide and review the development work of data engineers to confirm quality of deliverables, alignment with warehouse design principles, and completion of technical documentation • Work with OIT and business leadership to develop and maintain a coherent data strategy related to the warehouse, ensuring the team's alignment with strategic initiatives and priorities • Ensure compliance with data management processes in collaboration with data governance teams • Promote positive customer relationships to ensure customer satisfaction • Establish a positive and proactive relationship by demonstrating ownership and knowledge of customer business processes and issues • Maintain a deep understanding of software development project management methodologies and tools and a thorough understanding of project expectations and procedures, particularly within an agile framework • As the most senior technical member of a team, this position provides technical and functional guidance and support to other members of the team and provides functional and/or technical decision-making with broad and institution-wide impacts that affect assigned systems, students, faculty and staff Data Integration and Cross-Domain Collaboration: • Lead or participate in cross-domain teams within and outside of EAS consisting of various technical analysts and developers for integrated data sources to understand and properly assimilate the data via ETL processes into data warehouse models. Work with these teams to understand the structure and meaning of source data, assimilating it into functionally coherent models to meet business requirements • Provide technical leadership and expertise on data warehouse technology in collaborations with other technical teams including: database administrators to design and support efficient data storage, middleware and systems administrators and network administrators for integrations Data Security: • Lead design, development, and maintenance of a security model for the warehouse that ensures appropriate access to data from an object and row-level perspective while enforcing appropriate data protections and standards • Align security with the needs of analytics/BI access and integrate with the enterprise security request system Qualifications Minimum Education and Experience: 	 • Master's degree and at least 3 – 5 years of relevant experience OR • Bachelor's degree with at least 4 – 6 years of relevant experience OR • An equivalent combination of education, training and relevant experience Other Required Qualifications: 	 • Proven experience leading data warehouse implementations in a Data Warehouse Architect role with demonstrably successful results • Expertise in data warehouse design concepts, data modeling, and ETL • Expertise in managing a Software Development Lifecycle in a complex environment • Expertise in RDBMS, SQL, database design principles • Excellent problem solving, analytical and evaluative skills with an ability to resolve complex, difficult technical issues at the macro level • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in both technical and non-technical subjects including the ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization • Experience as a lead and/or senior member of a data warehouse team Preferred Qualifications: 	 • Significant experience designing and building data warehouses in a higher education environment, including familiarity with data structures specific to the academic and administrative operations of a large research university • Extensive experience with Oracle database design and development, particularly in a warehouse or data mart context, and SQL, PL/SQL • Experience with Oracle ETL and data management tools such as Oracle Data Integrator, Goldengate • Knowledge of Oracle database performance optimization for warehouses • Experience designing and building data warehouses, data pipelines, and ETL procedures on a variety of platforms and toolsets with particular preference for experience with SAS 9.4 as well as popular cloud data warehouses such as Redshift, Azure-Fabric, Snowflake, and/or Databricks. • Thorough knowledge of analytics platforms and data visualization toolsets, such as Power BI, Tableau, SAS Visual Analytics, etc., sufficient to understand how they consume and use data from warehouses/marts • Strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, and data analysis and manipulation languages like SAS, PL/SQL and DAX • Certification(s) in Data Architecture, Big Data, Data Engineering, Integrations, and other relevant technologies • Experience working in agile project management environments Required License(s) or Certification(s): N/A Valid NC Driver's License required: No Commercial Driver's License required: No Recruitment Dates and Special Instructions: Job Open Date: 09/12/2024 Anticipated Close Date: Open Until Filled Special Instructions to Applicants: 	 Please include as attachments a resume, cover letter, and contact information for at least 3 professional references.
