MOSAIC CHURCH LEAD PASTOR JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: Lead Pastor, Mosaic Church
Classification: Full-Time, Exempt

General Purpose: The primary purpose of this position is to inspire and guide the vision, broader culture, and overall ministry of Mosaic Church in a way that is aligned with the Scriptures, mission, vision, values, strategies and culture of Mosaic Church, in conjunction with a strong team atmosphere. The Lead Pastor will accomplish this purpose through five major responsibilities:
Commitment to prayer
Expository preaching of the Bible
Visionary leadership
Pastoral shepherding
Missional engagement
Reports To: The plurality of the Mosaic Elders. The Lead pastor is an Elder in the Elder Room.
Supervises: Staff (paid and volunteer), Teaching Team.
Works With: Elder Room, all staff (paid and volunteer)

Leadership Values:
- Model and protect the purity, unity, and faith of the congregation as outlined primarily in the Scriptures, and secondarily in the Bylaws of Mosaic Church.
- Disciple lay leaders, both women and men, to live out the vision of Mosaic Church.
- Shepherd the mission, vision, strategy, and missional outreach of Mosaic Church so that all generations and all people have opportunities to live out their faith in Jesus Christ and share it with others.
- Practice clear, professional, candid, appropriate, and timely communication with the elders, staff, and church body.
- Demonstrate humility in public and private, during times of peace and conflict.
- Develop and nurture relationships within Mosaic Church.
- Develop and nurture relationships with critical leaders in Marshalltown and the surrounding area.
- Lead well for the long term.
Qualifications:
- Meets the scriptural qualifications outlined in 1 Timothy 3 and Titus 1.
- Deep commitment to the gospel of Jesus Christ, as well as sharing it.
- Able to meet the biblical qualifications of an elder.
- Able to walk alongside Mosaic Church's mission, vision, values and strategies.
- A bachelor's and /or master's degree from an accredited Biblical college/university or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Acceptance of biblical theology as outlined by Mosaic Church.
- At least 7 years of proven ministry leadership experience preferred but not required.
- Highly effective communicator, as affirmed by multiple generations and peoples.
- Strong leadership skills, with a passion for empowering others and fostering a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
- Well-versed and experienced in conflict resolution.
- Able to take criticism, while pursuing peace as it depends on you.
- Demonstrate humility and grace, with a willingness to accept responsibility for your own failures, and failures of the staff that may not be of your own making.
- Serve as an example of a loyal friend and family member, who can properly balance the obligations of a professional and private life.
Mosaic Lead Pastor Roles and Responsibilities
- Commitment to Prayer
- Personally practice and lead the congregation into a vibrant prayer life.
- Utilize the Elder Room, Pastors, Staff and lay leaders to effectively develop a culture of regular prayer.
- Prayerfully inspire vision, overall direction, and values in a broad range of settings.
Prayerfully facilitate the development of strategies that will fulfill God's comprehensive calling for Mosaic Church, in collaboration with the Elder Room, Staff and Congregation.
- Preaching and Worship
- Provide strong expository, Christ-centered preaching and teaching, so that gospel-oriented, biblical truth is taught and applied ultimately to transform lives.
- Walk alongside the Elder Room, Worship Director and Teaching Team, to prayerfully and discerningly craft worship services.
- Lead and supervise the rotation of preachers so that the congregation experiences a broader team of preachers and special speakers.
Preach and teach from the pulpit on average 50-70 percent of the Sundays, with others (Associate Pastor and Elder Room) sharing the remainder of the Sundays.
- Visionary Leadership
- Serve as an elder, in the Mosaic Elder Room.
- Collaborate, articulate and implement a consistent strategic vision plan. Leading the staff to do the same with their volunteers and projects.

- Work collaboratively with elders and staff to further define and inspire the vision, overall direction, and values across church and community settings.
- Engage with church leaders and staff in the process of planning strategic directions for the church.
- Lead and supervise the staff to function collaboratively and model healthy interactions. Assuming the final responsibility for the leadership of the whole staff, as a "First Among Equals", and all outcomes - including development, training, goal setting, and relationships.
- Be actively involved in the recruitment, retention, and review of all staff.
- Maintain healthy working relationships in a team environment with the Elder Room, staff, and the congregation, promoting the unity of the church and respecting other members' giftedness and unique abilities.
- Actively participate in the administration and management of church operations , including budgeting, financial planning, office space/buildings, and personnel management in the church office.
- Missional Engagement
- Share with Mosaic Church in our missional endeavors, as a gathering of God's people, from which His people and His resources flow toward the world around us, in order to bring Him glory. Ultimately to be a " Redeemed people, for the redemption of all people ."
- Be a role model of evangelistic and missional witness to the congregation, thereby increasing the witness for Christ in the greater Marshalltown community, Central Iowa, and the world.
- Engage in, and build, relationships within the local community, partnering in outreach and mission activities, and collaborating with other organizations to address community needs.
- Demonstrate Christian unity with other church leaders from different backgrounds for the furtherance of the Kingdom. We live in a very multicultural and multi-ethnic community.
- Additional Duties - Other duties as they arise, opportunities for delegation being anticipated.
Annual Review: Roles and Responsibilities to be reviewed annually by the Elder Room.
