The Procedure Scheduler is responsible for coordinating and scheduling all procedures and tests as directed by Providers. Acts as a liaison between physician, patient, insurance companies, Spine and Pain Staff and OR scheduler. The Intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities of this position and shall not be considered as a detailed description of all the work requirements that may be inherent in the position.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Acts as a liaison between the Physician, Patient, Insurance Companies, Referring Offices, Practice Staff and OR staff to efficiently schedule and coordinate all ordered procedures and tests
Schedules procedure room and operating room time, according to physician scheduling and campus protocols. Maximizes scheduling opportunities
Obtains pre-certification/pre-authorization from insurance companies as necessary
Facilitates Peer to Peer denial for tests/procedures (between Physician and Insurance Company)
Verifies patient eligibility and coverage for the procedure; if patient is not eligible on date of service, or procedure is not a covered benefit, explains this to patients
Discusses pre-operative instructions with the patient/family as directed by physicians
Assists patient in arranging all appropriate pre-operative tests and blood work. Ensures patient has orders and instructions to complete necessary tests
Develops and maintains checklists for protocol/process for scheduling process for all scheduling process when necessary (vacation/sick coverage)
Coordinates all business and clinical paperwork prior to surgery, using physician approved forms and checklists; has paperwork ready for facility prior to the day of procedure
Maintains accuracy of schedule for providers
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sitting for up to 3 hours per day and 3 hours at a time. Standing for up to 8 hours per day, 8 hours at a time. Walking for up to 6 hours per day, 1 hour at a time. Frequently fingering, handling, firm grasping and twisting and turning as it relates to operative procedures or assisting in surgery. Rarely lifting, with assistance, up to 100 lbs. Rarely pushing and pulling patients weighing up to 300 lbs in a wheelchair or bed. Occasionally stooping and bending. Seeing as it relates to normal and far vision, and hearing as it relates to both high and low frequencies.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or equivalent required.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
1-year of experience in a physician office setting preferred. Proficient with computer software applications including electronic medical records and Microsoft office. Multitasking while maintaining accuracy with schedules. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Positive attitude.
