Position Summary: Fleet Mechanic
Join our team as a Fleet Mechanic and become a vital part of keeping our fleet moving! Working independently or with minimal guidance, you'll tackle advanced mechanical challenges and use your skills to perform expert repairs on a wide range of heavy-duty trucks and equipment. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys critical thinking, diagnosing complex issues, and systematically repairing everything from engines and drive trains to brakes, electrical systems, and beyond.
Key Responsibilities for Fleet Mechanic:
- Perform detailed preventive maintenance and complex repairs on all major systems of heavy-duty trucks, including engines, drive trains, brakes, suspension, electrical, hydraulic, and air systems.
- Carry out thorough inspections, diagnostics, and repairs under minimal supervision, keeping safety and efficiency as top priorities.
- Investigate and resolve malfunctions and breakdowns promptly.
- Rebuild and install diesel, gasoline, and compressed natural gas engines, working through disassembly, inspection, and reassembly with precision.
- Identify necessary parts and manage repair projects from start to finish.
- Conduct road tests to diagnose issues or verify successful repairs.
- Respond to service calls and perform on-the-spot field repairs.
- Complete Driver Vehicle Inspection Reports (DVIR) and keep management informed of repair progress.
- Perform safety checks and maintain a clean, safe workspace in line with OSHA and corporate standards.
- Use fleet maintenance software to track repairs, parts, time, and updates.
- Share your technical expertise and support the growth of other team members.
- Additional duties as assigned by the Fleet Maintenance Manager or Shop Coordinator.
What You Bring for Fleet Mechanic:
- Strong diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to handle complex issues independently.
- Proficiency in computer diagnostics and familiarity with fleet maintenance software.
- Skill in reading and interpreting schematics.
- Advanced-level experience (8 years) working on heavy-duty trucks and equipment, with a broad understanding of major systems.
- Ability to use hand and power tools effectively and safely.
- A commitment to safety and a knack for teamwork and problem-solving.
- Certification readiness for fall protection and operation of boom lifts, scissor lifts, and forklifts.
- A valid driver's license is required, with a commercial license (Class A or B) being a plus.
- Tire Industry Association (TIA) certification is a plus.
Education & Certifications for Fleet Mechanic:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Preferred ASE Certifications or trade school diploma.
- Valid Class C Driver's License; Commercial Driver's License Class A or B is a plus.
