POSITION SUMMARY: The Shipping & Receiving Team Lead is a vital role responsible for managing all shipping and receiving operations, ensuring that products are picked, packed, loaded, and shipped with efficiency and precision. This position requires a proactive, hands-on leader who works closely with production, project management, and other team members to meet operational goals. The ideal candidate has a positive attitude, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and demonstrates the ability to think on their feet while balancing multiple priorities. This position is critical to maintaining efficient shipping and receiving operations and upholding our company's commitment to quality and customer satisfaction. This role includes management responsibilities such as supervising and coaching while fostering an organized and efficient workplace.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Shipping:
- Oversee all shipping operations and manage shipping/receiving clerk(s).
- Utilize ERP systems to plan shipping schedules and review packing lists and drawings.
- Determine appropriate packing, crating, and shipping methods based on product requirements and shipping conditions.
- Inspect outgoing orders for quality and completeness, ensuring products meet company standards.
- Apply carpentry, mathematical, and tool-utilization skills to build custom crates, pallets, and secure loads for transport.
- Obtain competitive quotes for shipments, balancing service, cost, and delivery requirements.
- Hold logistics partners accountable for performance and seek opportunities to reduce transportation costs.
- Document shipments with detailed records, including photographs and Bills of Lading.
- Track all outgoing shipments, identify delays or damages, and resolve claims with necessary documentation.
- Ensure all shipping supplies are adequately stocked and notify purchasing when inventory is low.
Receiving:
- Inspect all incoming shipments for overages, shortages, and damages.
- Organize, label, and store materials appropriately in coordination with purchasing and production.
- Assist with the return of materials as needed.
Loading / Staging:
- Stage completed products for packaging, loading, and shipment.
- Load shipments onto vehicles or trailers using best practices for secure transportation.
Inventory:
- Conduct cycle counts and assists purchasing in maintaining inventory accuracy.
- Maintain organization and cleanliness in stockroom and material storage areas.
Training and Coaching:
- Train and coach shipping/receiving clerk(s) on proper shipping, packing, and crating techniques.
- Manage schedules to ensure adequate team coverage during operational hours.
- Evaluate processes for efficiency and implement improvements as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Flexibility to work overtime as needed to meet shipping deadlines and/or accommodate early/late truck schedules.
- Maintain a safe work environment and adhere to OSHA standards.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Education: High school diploma required; associate degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years in shipping/receiving, inventory management, and team supervision.
- Forklift, carpentry and fabrication skills are desirable.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record; DOT eligibility preferred.
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification desirable.
- Strong organizational skills with the ability to multitask and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Proficiency with computers and ERP systems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; work with their hands handle, or feel, whether directly manipulating components or using controls on an assembly machine. The employee must be able to talk or hear over shop noise. The employee must be able to stand for extended periods of time. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms; climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must regularly lift and/or move 50 to 75 pounds and move it for at least 50 feet. pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
MECHANICAL / TECHNICAL SKILLS:
The employee must be able to read and understand blueprints, manuals, and work with computers, and machines. Math: Basic math is needed
