The Staff Engineer, will lead the technical architecture and development of our Data Lake platform The ideal candidate brings deep expertise in building pipelines using java, microservices and Spark. They will be a critical member to help build our data lake environments. This a permanent job and the person must live within 40 miles of Boston Mass or Nashua NH. There is no sponsorship available. The annual salary is between 130,000 per year to 201,000 per year plus bonus. Overall Duties Lead Development : Drive the design, implementation, and improvement of the Data Lake platform to ensure reliability, performance, and scalability. Architectural Oversight : Guide platform architecture and integrations with solutions, ensuring effective execution and performance. Technical Leadership : Champion innovative technical solutions, leveraging data and AI technologies to enhance productivity and quality. Collaboration : Partner with security, product, and engineering teams to ensure data privacy, security, and seamless system integration. Vendor Engagement : Evaluate external technologies and services to align with the Data Lake strategy. Roadmap & Reporting : Manage roadmaps, project plans, and provide status updates on development, quality, and performance to stakeholders. Mentorship & Culture : Set high standards, mentor engineering teams, and foster a culture of learning, innovation, and inclusivity. Strategic Guidance : Advise senior leadership on complex challenges and lead initiatives to achieve organizational goals using OKRs. Quality & Metrics : Set measurable quality goals, maintain strong DORA metrics, and ensure alignment with security and performance requirements. Experience you’ll bring Have 10 years of software design and development experience at a large scale. Expertise in core Java and Microservices Ability to build out use cases Broad understanding of Data Lakehouse formats Demonstrable experience in Spark programming Experience with Spark on DBT with AWS Glue or Apache Polaris is a plus Broad understanding of cloud architecture tools and services, such as S3, EMR, Kubernetes, Lambda functions. Experience in AWS and Azure is highly desirable. Rich experience and deep expertise in the areas of Big Data and large scale data platforms, especially in Data Lake. Highly experienced and deep understanding of CI/CD automation. Agile mindset. Excellent analytical skills; Capability in identifying and resolving complex problems. A mentor to individual contributors of different seniority levels and expertise. Strong written and verbal communication skills Bachelor degree in Computer Science or a related field. A higher degree in a related field is a plus.
