The Company Under the direction and control of the Board of Trustees of two large Georgia retirement systems, the Division of Investment Services (“DIS”) is responsible for the day-to-day management of approximately $119 billion in combined assets under management as of December 31, 2023. Currently, Teachers Retirement System (“TRS”) and Employees’ Retirement System (“ERS”) make up approximately 84% and 16%, respectively, of the combined assets. As it currently stands, the asset allocation is roughly 70% public equities, 30% fixed income, and a small alternative sleeve. The entire fixed income portfolio and the majority of the public equities portfolio are managed in-house. Today, the DIS’ in-house Research team comprises of 20 total analysts including the Co-Directors of Research, who are both active analysts Purpose of the Position The State of Georgia Division of Investment Services is seeking an equity analyst to cover the industrials sector. Key Responsibilities This position is ideal for investment professionals who have a passion for the markets, equity analysis and valuation, with a career goal to be an analyst. In addition to a challenging yet stable environment, this opportunity also offers an attractive work life balance. This role will not be suitable for candidates who are interested in managing others. The selected candidate will report directly to the Co-Directors of Research and serve as a value-add member of the research team. The key responsibilities of the Industrials Equity Analyst are to: Bring experience as a fundamental analyst. They should be well-versed in all aspects of equity analysis. Maintain coverage of 125 companies at full capacity. Contribute to the 500 Research and 400 Research Funds, which are enhanced index funds managed in-house and measured against the S&P 500 and S&P 400 Midcap indices, respectively. Succinctly summarize investments including the risks of and reasons to own a particular security. Independently assess the financial condition of a company from SEC filings. Perform balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow analysis to support an ultimate valuation or recommendation. Assess the long-term viability of a company, prepare written stock pitches, and defend this opinion to portfolio managers and peers. Utilize an established investment process and develop an investment strategy for the deployment of assets. Bring an established track record based upon a sound and well-developed investment process. Be in the office a minimum of three days each week to cross-collaborate and build relationships with colleagues across the department. The Candidate Experience and Professional Qualifications At least 7 years post graduate investing experience (or 5 and the CFA designation) with a strong interest and understanding of public equity investing along with a high-comfort level in a performance-based environment is preferred. High attention to detail, an ability to work independently, a strong understanding of financial statements, and proficient financial modelling skills. Independent thinkers with the ability to make recommendations on a 125 stock universe, evaluate industry trends, and identify risks across the market cap spectrum and global indexes. Bring a consistent and repeatable fundamental research process that taps all publicly available resources to forecast future revenue, expenses, earnings, and cash flow of companies under coverage. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, intellectual curiosity, and constant learning are required to be successful in this role. Clearly articulated valuation process based on cash flow or other appropriate approaches. Experience preparing and presenting research as part of the investment process is a valuable plus. Proficiency in FactSet and Microsoft Office, with an emphasis on Excel, is required. Self-motivated and operates well in an independent yet collegial environment. Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and function well under pressure. Operate with a high degree of personal character, integrity, and honesty. Education Bachelor's degree is required. MBA or other advanced degree or professional certification (such as CPA, CFA, or CAIA) is desirable.
