Responsibilities- Performs patient culture testing in Microbiology.
- Functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of clinical laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis.
- Performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation.
- Participates in quality assurance, performance improvement, laboratory education, new employee training and proficiency testing when assigned.
- Displays technical expertise necessary to ensure timely and accurate results of laboratory procedures.
- Ensure specimens are obtained and processed in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
- Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.
- Supports organizational priorities to maintain compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
- Exhibits problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and evaluate critical laboratory results.
- Participates in the training/mentoring of new employees, students or interns including lectures and bench techniques.
- Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
- Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
Qualifications Job Requirements:
- Baccalaureate Degree or Associates Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Laboratory Technician, or a chemical, physical or biological science degree.
Preferred Job Requirements:
- ASCP or equivalent. Certification within a specific area, i.e. M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP) qualifies.
- Previous clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician, Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Laboratory Scientist within a clinical laboratory
- Prior Microbiology experience highly preferred.
