Duties & Responsibilities Purpose The primary role of the workshop technician is to be responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and upgrading electronic and automation systems while ensuring seamless network integration across various technologies. The role will also involve supporting the development of new systems and ensuring that existing ones remain operational and effective. Functions ESSENTIAL Maintenance and Repair: Perform diagnostic tests and repairs on a range of electronic equipment, including control systems, networked devices, and automation systems. Identify and resolve faults quickly to ensure minimum downtime. Network and Systems Integration: Work closely with IT teams to integrate network systems with automation and electronic control devices. Maintain and monitor network infrastructure, ensuring connectivity and performance are optimal for all devices. Automation Systems Support: Support the setup, calibration, and operation of automation equipment, including PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers), sensors, and other automated machinery. Configure and maintain SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems as needed. Testing: Perform testing on electronic equipment to ensure systems are functioning to specification. Conduct regular inspections and preventative maintenance on all automation and control systems. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain clear and up-to-date technical documentation, including wiring diagrams, system configurations, and troubleshooting logs. Provide regular reports on system performance and suggest improvements where necessary. Troubleshooting: Investigate and resolve technical issues across electronic, network, and automation systems. Work with engineers and other technicians to identify and implement corrective actions. Continuous Improvement: Stay updated on the latest technologies in electronics, network systems, and automation to recommend and implement improvements to existing setups. Qualifications REQUIRED HNC/HND or equivalent in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline. Strong knowledge of electronics, electrical circuits, and components. Experience with automation systems, such as PLCs and SCADA systems. Familiarity with network protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet, Modbus, etc.) and network troubleshooting. Hands-on experience with electrical testing and calibration tools. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical documentation. Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work under pressure. Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work as part of a team. DESIRED Experience with industrial automation, robotics, and control systems. Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for networked automation systems. Familiarity with IoT (Internet of Things) and cloud-based monitoring systems. Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
