How You’ll Make an Impact
We are excited to offer a Summer Internship opportunity on our Automotive Experience team, which supports how SiriusXM partners with automotive manufacturers to design, document, and deliver in-car experiences across a complex ecosystem of hardware, software, and platforms.
As an Automotive Documentation Intern, you’ll contribute to meaningful work that improves how we communicate product and design guidance to our automotive partners. You’ll collaborate closely with experienced designers and cross-functional partners, helping create clear, consistent, and visually well-crafted documentation that enables high-quality in-vehicle experiences.
This role is especially well suited for someone excited about working on:
Automotive and in-vehicle user experiences
Design documentation and reference materials
Complex systems that span design, engineering, and partner teams
Improving clarity, consistency, and usability in technical and design-facing resources
What Success Looks Like
By the end of the internship, you will have supported the creation and improvement of partner-facing documentation and reference materials used by automotive manufacturers. This includes contributing to clearly scoped documentation efforts, improving structure and clarity, and helping ensure materials are accurate, usable, and aligned with product and design intent. This also includes helping raise the overall quality bar for how documentation looks, feels, and is experienced by partners.
Success in this role means demonstrating strong attention to detail, clear communication, sound judgment, and the ability to work effectively within real-world constraints and cross-functional workflows.
What You’ll Do
- Support the creation, organization, and maintenance of documentation and reference materials used by automotive partners
- Contribute to documentation that supports in-vehicle experiences across multiple platforms and systems
- Work closely with the lead designer and cross-functional partners to improve the clarity, structure, and consistency of existing resources
- Help translate product and design decisions into clear, well-structured, and thoughtfully presented guidance for internal teams and external partners.
- Contribute to the evolution of partner-facing tools and resources, helping improve clarity, usability, and alignment with modern design and accessibility standards.
- Participate in reviews, feedback sessions, and cross-team discussions to ensure documentation aligns with evolving product and design standards
- Collaborate with designers, product managers, engineers, and partner-facing teams to understand requirements and constraints
- Apply and document established design systems, patterns, and guidelines, identifying gaps or opportunities for improvement
- Help craft clear narratives and supporting materials that communicate intent, usage, and best practices
- Learn alongside a thoughtful, supportive team that cares deeply about both the quality of the work and the people doing it
- Bring curiosity and perspective to the team. While a passion for automotive or technology is a plus, many on the team also share interests in music, media, design systems, and how complex products come together
What You’ll Learn
- How automotive and partner-facing product work functions within a real-world organization
- How design documentation supports consistency, quality, and partner success at scale
- How product, design, and engineering teams collaborate within complex ecosystems
- How to communicate design intent clearly through documentation and reference materials
- How to balance precision, clarity, and practicality when supporting partner-facing work
- You’ll be supported by experienced designers and partners who will provide mentorship, regular feedback, and guidance throughout the internship.
What You’ll Need:
- Internships are open to current students enrolled at a university (those graduating by May 2027 are preferred) and recent graduates who graduated within the 12-month period prior to the start of the internship, majoring in Design, Human-Computer Interaction, UX/UI, Technical Communication, Digital Media, or related fields
- A strong portfolio demonstrating interest in documentation, design systems thinking, or design support work, including attention to visual quality, hierarchy, and presentation. Academic or personal projects that show clear communication and organization are encouraged
- Experience with design tools such as Figma
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, time management, and the ability to maintain clear and organized documentation
- Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across disciplines and incorporate feedback
- Interest in automotive, connected systems, or complex product ecosystems is a plus
- Adaptability, eagerness to learn, curiosity, and comfort working through ambiguity are key to a successful internship with us
