A Brief Overview Responsible for the maintenance and care of the Medical Center's grounds/facilities including seasonal requirements related to lawns, shrub-beds, parking lots, snow removal, sidewalks and roadways. This includes insuring that all grass and shrub beds are kept neat and trim and all areas are kept clean and free of debris and snow/ice. What you will do Maintains the grounds and gardens surrounding the hospital and hospital-owned buildings, as directed Performs preventive maintenance on all tools and equipment required for the job Cleans all walks and entrance ways daily Shovels snow from walks, driveways, or parking lots and spreads melting supplies in those areas Operates vehicles and powered equipment, such as mowers, tractors, twin-axle vehicles, snow blowers, chain saws, electric clippers, sod cutters, pruning saws, etc. Cares for established lawns by mulching, aerating, weeding, grubbing, removing thatch, or trimming or edging around flower beds, walks, or walls Gathers and removes litter Maintains or repairs tools, equipment, or structures, such as buildings, greenhouses, fences, or benches, using hand or power tools Mixes and sprays or spreads fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides onto grass, shrubs, or trees, using hand or automatic sprayers or spreaders Maintains irrigation systems, water features etc. including winterizing the systems and starting them up in spring Provides proper upkeep of sidewalks, driveways, parking lots, fountains, planters, burial sites, or other grounds features Water lawns, trees, or plants, using portable sprinkler systems, hoses, or watering cans Trims or picks flowers and cleans flower beds Rakes, mulches, and composts leaves Uses irrigation methods to adjust the amount of water consumption and to prevent waste Follows planned landscaping designs to determine where to lay sod, sow grass, or plant flowers or foliage. Plants seeds, bulbs, foliage, flowering plants, grass, ground covers, trees, or shrubs and applies mulch for protection, using gardening tools Decorates gardens with stones or plants Hauls or spreads topsoil or spread straw over seeded soil to hold soil in place Advises on plant selection or care Plans or cultivates lawns or gardens Attaches wires from planted trees to support stakes Installs rock gardens, ponds, decks, drainage systems, irrigation systems, retaining walls, fences, planters, or playground equipment Performs other duties as assigned Education Qualifications High School Diploma Or equivalent Required Experience Qualifications 1-3 years Landscaping experience Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Interpersonal and communication skills (High proficiency) Works well independently and in a team environment (High proficiency) Ability to work with minimal supervision (High proficiency) Ability to follow written and oral instructions (High proficiency) Ability to work outdoors for long periods of time and in extreme weather conditions, especially heat, as well as rain and some cold (High proficiency) Licenses and Certifications Valid NJ Driver's License Upon Hire Required At Holy Name, we believe in rewarding every team member with more than a paycheck—we invest in your future and well-being.
