JOB SUMMARY Heritage Lakewood Belmar Park is seeking energetic and positive History Park Instructors to facilitate history, heritage, and cultural programs primarily for children ages 4-17. Our ideal History Park Instructor is an enthusiastic, self-motivated, well organized, creative, and resourceful person who actively invests in helping young learners explore their own capabilities and increase their self-esteem. With a focus on 20th century content, we explore immersive history, cultural heritage crafting, cooking, music, sewing, gardening, painting, quilting, illustration, video games, handicrafts, and more! The City of Lakewood is currently recruiting variable employees for this position. A variable employee is an at-will employee who works in a seasonal or temporary capacity. Their work schedule is based on business need. This position would be a part-time non benefitted position. MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (This job description does not list every function of the position.) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Create a fun and welcoming atmosphere for learners of all ages which will enhance the experience of program participants. Instruct, encourage, and lead programs that foster positive self-expression and builds self-esteem and personal growth. Collaborate with Museum Program Specialist to create engaging lesson plans that are exciting and educational. Utilize personal skillset, experience, and interests to help create and facilitate future Heritage Lakewood programs! Record and maintain required records including attendance, incident reports, and participant forms. Set-up classroom and return space to neat state upon completion of class. Responsible for maintaining inventory of supplies and report to coordinator when to reorder. Work alongside other Heritage Lakewood staff and volunteers Utilize available resources to ensure a wonderful experience for young learners. Attend all required staff/planning meetings. Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor. Hours of Work Fixed schedule, Current classes to be filled - Saturday mornings. Summer Day Camps. High possibility of more scheduled hours as current programs expands, and new programs emerge. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Education : An Associate's degree in History, Education, Fine Arts, Art, or Art Education or can substitute a minimum of 3 years of experience in as an instructor managing/facilitating group of children participating in educational programs. Experience : One year of experience teaching in a classroom setting or instruction of a specialty craft. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Ability to work with children of all ages. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees, participants, volunteers, parents and caregivers Have good classroom management.
