PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As the Production Manager you will be leading a dynamic team of locomotive maintenance professionals daily covering all aspects of planning, scheduling, assignment of work within a locomotive maintenance environment, ensuring that all maintenance production activities are performed in a safe and efficient manner, and executed in accordance with company, industry and regulations and policy.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Supports Front line Mechanical supervisors on the planning and execution of Locomotive maintenance and repairs activities, hold supervisors and craft accountable to daily production targets
- Accountable for continuity of production shift over shift
- Support, communicate and deliver to key performance indicators. Drills down to get to the root cause of business issues to ensure all direct reports have an understanding of the business objectives, as well as the role they are all accountable for
- Validate job briefings, end of shift briefings, safety meetings and activities to ensure that safety rules, procedures and policies are adhered to through efficiency testing and safety tracking document;
- Validate that there is the appropriate level of stock/material and holds store department accountable to protect production plans for next 72 hours
- Audit maintenance activities and processes
- Maintain communication and foster positive working relationships with local union officials. Ensures the collective agreement is understood and managed as it is written
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess a minimum of a High school diploma or mechanical/Electrical trade certification and or equivalent university degree
- 5 years Railroad experience;
- 3-5 years’ experience leading front-line operations
- Experience in locomotive maintenance on GE and EMD locomotive product types.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Working knowledge of SAP;
- Microsoft Outlook, Word, Power Point and Excel;
- Knowledge of collective agreement/non-union policies;
- Must be able to work with vast array of employees and be adaptable;
- Strong coaching skills
