TITLE: Senior Engineer Positive Train Control (PTC)
LOCATION: Philadelphia, PA
DUTIES: Develops and implements train control projects, with emphasis on Positive Train Control (PTC) systems. Supports configuration control of train control hardware and software designs as they progress from V&V (Verification and Validation) to deployment. Provides critical processes and procedures to better ensure the safety of changes made to the PTC systems. Develops and maintains configuration management processes for the Engineering Department’s PTC Lab to ensure configuration of files, databases, and firmware revisions are properly maintained. Coordinates all lab test activities and ensures configuration of both components-under-test and support tools/systems as required for each test. Reviews ACSES (Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System) Transponder and WIU (Wayside Interface Unit) design changes with staff engineers to develop lab simulation/test procedures. Performs ACSES Transponder and WIU lab tests and produces validation reports and logs/analysis for review by staff engineers. Performs functional testing of ACSES components to troubleshoot/assess defects found in the field. Organizes and leads test trains to validate wayside ACSES updates and OBC (On-Board computer) ACSES behavior.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field followed by three (3) years of post-baccalaureate experience in the job offered or in an occupation related to Electrical or Hardware Engineering. Experience must include three (3) years with: (1) Designing, implementing, and maintaining of Positive Train Control (PTC) systems and industry-standard practices pertaining to communication protocols and train control systems. Must also possess two (2) years of experience with each of the following: (2) Designing PTC systems pertaining to Transponder and WIU (Wayside interface Unit); (3) Developing of test plans to ensure all the PTC elements (Wayside and OnBoard) comply with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) safety regulations; (4) Reviewing ACSES (Advanced Civil Speed Enforcement System) and ATC (Automatic Train Control) OBC (OnBoard Computer) logs from engines to determine the root cause of the reported delays; (5) Leading projects pertaining to the design, analysis, implementation, and testing of PTC system modifications, in particular changes affecting safety functions; (6) Developing and leading qualification plans to verify ACSES OBC functionalities and interfaces with the PTC equipped wayside; (7) Working with FRA and AREMA regulations; and (8) Developing and maintaining configuration management processes for the Engineering Department’s PTC lab to ensure configuration files, databases, and firmware revisions are properly maintained. All experience may be acquired concurrently. Remote work permitted in accordance with standard company policy. All positions require pre-employment background check verification and a pre-employment drug screen. Must be available to travel up to 25% of schedule to provide onsite field support as required to various vendors across the country.
SALARY: $103,700 - $149,400 per year
