PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:
As a Regulatory Reporting Specialist, you will work as part of a team dedicated to the preparation and review of external disclosure documents, including quarterly and annual consolidated financial statements and regulatory financial filings in accordance with US GAAP and Canadian/US regulatory accounting requirements. Accomplished through partnering with teams across CPKC, working with large volumes of data, and driving process optimization. Ideal candidates will have a strong work ethic, sense of ownership, curiosity, enjoy solving sophisticated problems, and have a proven track record of meeting objectives.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Prepare consolidated financial statements and related schedules, and various operational and financial filings under Canadian/US regulatory accounting standards to regulatory agencies
- Ensure compliance with Canadian/US regulatory accounting standards – regulatory accounting standards are prescribed principles which are modified from US GAAP
- Identify, analyze and reconcile US GAAP to regulatory accounting differences
- Prepare financial and operational statistical analysis on quarterly and annually basis
- Perform journal entries and reconciliations
- Review, trace and understand account codes, cost objects on accounting transactions
- Coordinate with multiple internal collaborators to acquire and validate information needed for reporting purpose
- Identify and analyze improvement to processes and work with teams (corporate reporting, tax, operations, information service) to implement selected solution
- provide financial data to support price index, cost of capital and grain revenue related calculations, and help to develop economic information reports
- Liaise with government agencies and stay current on regulatory changes, proposals and analyze impact of changes
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting, Finance or relevant fields; Accounting Designation is desirable
- Minimum two (2) years of relevant professional experience, railroad related experience is desirable
- Ability to work Excel to manipulate large sets of data
- Application expertise (desirable): SAP, BW, BPC
