Hours: Approximately 10 - 20 per week
Compensation: $21/hour

Primary Responsibilities:
• Review monthly grant reports to communicate key trends in Special Olympics fitness programming globally to Fitness team.
• Review relevant literature on fitness implementation for people with intellectual disabilities in a variety of settings, including schools, homes, group homes, day centers, and sport settings, and support resource creation as needed.
• Support the implementation of a new fitness app, through resource creation to support athletes’ use of the app, supporting focus groups to garner feedback from Special Olympics Programs piloting the fitness app, and summarizing key findings to inform improvements to the fitness app.
• Assist with reviewing and providing feedback on inclusive fitness materials.
• Assist in preparation of presentations, webinars, newsletters, and other written materials to report on fitness outcomes, opportunities, and successes. This may include developing a database of inclusive fitness programming and the creation of a Fitness Strategic Plan annual report.
• Provide support with fitness-related communication plans and social media activations. This may include developing content for fitness-related social media campaigns, including Physical Fitness and Sports month and fitness challenge activations.
• Assist with delivering trainings (ex: Fitness Captain, fitness implementation, etc.) to various stakeholders.
• Support Unified Physical Education resource updates by reviewing relevant inclusive physical education literature and adapted physical education resources.
• Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
• Currently enrolled in undergraduate or graduate (graduate preferred) courses and pursuing a degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Adaptive Physical Activity, Public Health, or other related fields
•Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate with external audiences.
•Proficiency with Microsoft office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint) and strength in learning new technologies and programs.
•Strong attention to detail, along with skills in organization, time management and prioritization.
•Good interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment as well as independently with minimal supervision.
•Ability to conduct background research or synthesize key points from articles.
Desired Qualifications:
•Prior experience or background knowledge in Special Olympics and/or a passion for working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.
•Some knowledge of or interest in disability inclusion, physical activity or sport, coaching, exercise, and/or non-profits.
•Experience managing grant reports, synthesizing data, and writing reports.
Internship Schedule:
The intern will work 10-20 hours per week with time frames mutually agreed upon between the intern and supervisor. The intern is expected to log hours worked in a provided timesheet. The internship timeframe will be September 2024 – May 2025, with some flexibility regarding start and end dates. The internship may not exceed 350 hours.
