PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
Reporting to the Manager of Community Investment, the Specialist supports community engagement programs and manages annual Community Investment budgets. They ensure the operational integrity of CPKC's Community Investment software and manage changes. The Specialist coordinates initiatives with internal and external stakeholders to enhance the company’s community impact and reputation. They assist multiple CPKC business lines with Community Investments, liaise with charitable, non-profit, and business organizations for donations and sponsorships, support grant processes, and gather data for reporting and communications.
POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Oversee budgeting, forecasting, accruals, and amortization, providing financial guidance for team expenditures. Collaborate with internal teams to prepare and monitor annual $24m budgets for Sponsorship & Community Investment, ensuring alignment with company goals
- Assist internal stakeholders, including Executives, Marketing & Sales, HR/Diversity, Hazmat, CPKC Police Service, Government Affairs, Community Relations, First Nation, and Operations, in managing donations and sponsorships, offering industry best practices, strategic direction, and contract negotiation. Support development of community investment strategies if necessary
- Process cash and in-kind donations using Benevity software and internal payment systems, ensuring compliance with budget caps and contract requirements
- Coordinate with external organizations on donation/sponsorship applications and manage deliverables to maximize engagement and ROI
- Administer the Benevity Grants software, understanding backend processes, security requirements, and accounting procedures
- Create reports, presentations, and documents for strategic planning, ESG reporting, social impact metrics, and communications
- Collaborate with the Communications Team on internal and external communication plans to highlight investments and tell impactful stories
- Address public inquiries regarding sponsorships and community investments promptly and effectively
- Perform additional duties as needed to support the Sponsorship and Community Investment Team
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Post-secondary certification/degree/diploma in Community Investment, public relations, CSR, or a related field
- Five years of relevant experience
- Strong financial knowledge including budgeting, forecasting, accruals, and amortization
- Familiarity with SAP and Benevity or similar systems
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills, able to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines
- Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders; excellent communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
- Proficient in MS Office (Teams, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) at an intermediate to advanced level
- Availability for some evening/weekend work for Sponsorship and Community Investment events

Management Conductor Program:
