As part of MBS Hub Strategy, the Head of Accounting & Finance Operations will aim to provide smooth and efficient Accounting and Finance solutions for Merck, steering performance and managing service in a fast, high-quality, and efficient manner. Accounting & Finance Operations may include Record2Report (General and Subledger accounting), Invoice2Cash, Master Data, and Inquiry management.
This role needs to manage a team sized up to 250 FTEs with direct reports based in the Hub. Main responsibilities shall include:

- Ensuring compliance with labor laws and regulations

How you will contribute:
- STRATEGY: Develop and execute a comprehensive Accounting & Finance operations strategy in the Hub aligned with the organization's goals and objectives. Provide visionary leadership to the operations team, driving continuous improvement, innovation, data integrity, best practices, and cost efficiency of the operations. Position Accounting & Finance operations as a trusted partner, managing stakeholders efficiently.
- GOVERNANCE: Create an efficient organizational structure focusing on core skills for better and faster decision-making, operations, and improvement. Maintain and continuously improve the span of control. Understand alignment needs within MBS (e.g., Functional Solution, CAO) and outside MBS (e.g., Enabling Functions).
- PERFORMANCE: Build performance transparency and steer service delivery of the Accounting & Finance operations based on data, reaching agreed KPIs and productivity targets. Understand the business need and deliver service based on the requirement. Establish sustainable daily management, problem-solving, and performance management processes. Drive performance improvements in the Hub and cross-functionally. Ensure adherence to the SOPs, policies, etc., and improve quality and compliance of the delivered service. Drive quality, user experience, and effectiveness across the organization E2E by working with relevant business stakeholders.
- PROCESS: Identify opportunities for automation and process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce manual interventions, optimizing end-to-end operations.
- CAPABILITY & COMPETENCE: Create a talent hub, understand the upskilling need, develop teams to be true solution partners, develop learning journeys for SMEs in operations, drive best practice sharing, and knowledge sharing.
- PEOPLE & CULTURE: Effectively communicate the company’s goals, strategies, and performance targets to the operational teams. Be a role model driving a continuous improvement mindset and a high-impact culture. Provide an environment for innovation, curiosity, and learning.
- Strategic impact: Guide the team to leverage the power of technology and LEAN management to achieve efficiency and effectiveness goals. Contribute to the standardization of the Accounting and Finance process from a global view. Build up proper interface and strong partnership with internal and external stakeholders.
Who You Are:
- Bachelor’s degree is required; an advanced degree is strongly preferred.
- CPA certification is required.
- A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in Finance Operations focusing on Month End Closing, General Ledger, Product Costing, and Management Accounting.
- A minimum of 3 years of management experience is required.
- Experience in Global Business Services or Shared Services for at least 5 years is a must.
- A solid understanding of Accounting and Finance processes is strongly preferred.
- Highly analytical, detail-oriented, and possess a strong business sense.
- Strong written and verbal communication in English; knowledge of another European language is a plus.
- Effective time management, stakeholder management, organizational skills, and a sense of risk management.
- Experience in the GBS area is a strong plus.
