The Role
Harmony is looking for a skilled Gardening and Maintenance Person to join the Facilities and Maintenance team and work across several of our centres.
The role is responsible for the overall presentation of the outdoor environments at each centre delegated to them as their responsibility. Key areas of responsibility include but are not limited overall ownership of the outdoor areas in the childcare centres’ along with assisting with the design and installation of new centre developments.
On a day-to-day basis, responsibilities include:
- Carrying out grounds works as requested by the Centre Mangers and or the Facilities Manager;
- Assist to develop work schedules and coordinate daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly tasks. In addition, any major works projects required;
- Proactively engage in workflow management using CMMS (MEX)
- Work with and assist other staff and appointed sub-contractors in the effective and safe performance of their duties;
- Ensure all work is conducted in accordance with relevant safety legislation for the benefit of all stakeholders at the centre, along with utilisation and maintenance of all personal protective equipment;
- The use of power tools needs to be strictly controlled and to ensure that no access to these would be made available under any circumstances to children;
- General cleaning of building exteriors, paths, bubblers and playground areas;
- Gardening duties including but not limited to: pruning, hedging, mulching, planting, fertilising, weed management;
- Pest and disease control;
- Irrigation installation and maintenance (poly and pvc) including automatic controllers and solenoids in both garden and turf systems;
- Sandpit maintenance to be carried out each visit (cleaning / debris free) and replenishment as required to ensure a safe play area is available for children;
- Lawn duties including but not limited to: mowing, edge trimming, weeding, pest spraying and fertilising;
- Garden tools, equipment and machinery operation and maintenance – mowers, trailers, blowers, brush cutters, hedge trimmers, power brooms;
- Perform risk assessments for all high risk work;
- Observe all safety work practices, rules and regulation in all aspects of work performed;
- Assist with repairs and maintenance where instructed to do so from the Facilities Manager.
The safety of the children in our care is of upmost importance so a risk assessment needs to be performed for all tasks planning to be executed during a centre visit.
About You
To be considered for this position you will have:
- at least 2 years’ experience working in maintenance with a focus on outdoors spaces
- the ability to work collaboratively and in partnership with a range of stakeholders
- good knowledge of plants and horticulture
- the ability to undertake varied tasks with a large degree of autonomy
- a strong focus on safe work practices
- National Criminal History Record Check
- a blue card
- current drivers’ Licence and the ability to travel to different centres
- current First Aid Certificate
- trade background looked at favourably
