A global mining conglomerate with operations throughout the world is seeking a permanent Mine Accountant. This will see you work in a residential (or DIDO) capacity at one of their key Queensland mine sites in the Central Highlands region!
Your new role
With their global headquarters located overseas, this international conglomerate conducts mining, energy, and resource extraction services across multiple continents and countries. Domestically, with their Australian HQ in New South Wales, over the past few years they have been building their presence throughout the state of Queensland by replicating their successful global business model locally. As part of this, they have grown to be Australia's largest coal producer with over 17 coal mines in operation across the East Coast.
Due in part to their ever-growing success, they are seeking to appoint a new site Accountant to their growing team. The site accountant will need to be based in a residential/DIDO capacity at one of their largest sites in the Central Highlands region of Queensland. With over 650 employed, this role is crucial and is the key link between the finance and on-site operational functions.
Your responsibilities will include preparing end-of-month reports, both financial and management reports. You'll analyse data, forecast, budget, and handle contract claims. Specifically, your role encompasses:
- Budget variance analysis
- Review and analysis of cost centres
- End-of-month processing
- General ledger and asset register maintenance
- CAPEX management and reporting
- Collaboration with external auditors and assisting with their queries
- Assisting in budget preparation
- KPI reporting
What you'll need to succeed To be successful in this position, you should ideally demonstrate the following qualifications, skills, and attributes:
- An accounting-related degree and CA or CPA (or working towards accreditation)
- Your ability to build and manage complex budgets is crucial. This involves understanding financial data, forecasting, and allocating resources effectively.
- Demonstrating an aspiring personality is essential. They value individuals who are motivated, proactive, and eager to learn and grow.
- Previous experience in an accounting environment is advantageous. Practical familiarity with financial processes, reporting, and compliance will serve you well.
- Advanced Excel skills are highly regarded. Proficiency in spreadsheet tools allows for efficient data analysis and reporting.

What you'll get in return You will be offered a permanent role with a leading global mining organisation in the Central Highlands region of QLD, paying circa $130,000 base. Note: This role is residential and not FIFO; however, DIDO is an option.
