About the Opportunity
DWER is looking to establish a talent pool to fill Manager positions within our Industry Regulation team to fill immediate and future opportunities. We currently have one (1) permanent position to fill immediately and other permanent positions arising in the near future. We also have fixed term contracts available now.
There are three branches within Industry Regulation that focus on regulating key industries in Western Australia:
- Resource industries: mining activities and ports.
- Process industries: mineral processing, manufacturing, energy production, chemical processing, oil and gas, agribusiness, breweries and wineries.
- Waste industries: landfills, liquid waste facilities, wastewater treatment plants, and solid waste storage facilities.
Responsibilities
- Leading and managing an allocated team that undertakes environmental risk assessment associated with works approvals and licences under Part V, Division III of the Environmental Protection Act 1986;
- Delegated decision-making responsibilities.
Reporting to a Senior Manager, you will provide oversight of a team (typically 6-10 environmental officers) delivering environmental assessment of activities subject to a works approval or licence, manage contentious issues, and support other areas of the department such as compliance and enforcement programs. You will contribute to policy and regulatory reform and development of better practice to support industry regulation.
You will have the opportunity to manage the effective and efficient use of the team’s resources to support the delivery of the sector’s and wider Division’s strategic priorities. You will provide expert scientific advice and share scientific knowledge with internal and external stakeholders and represent the Department on committees, working groups, and other forums.
