Your role at St John of God Health Care
Reporting to the General Manager, Clinical Governance, the Senior Manager, Clinical Governance will primarily focus on assisting hospitals and services with clinical incident management and has oversight of the organisational clinical incident management program along with corresponding Clinical Incident Management System (CIMS) for the whole of SJGHC. This role is pivotal to the Group Clinical Governance program and will drive critical patient safety initiatives across the organisation.
The Position
Leads and oversees the SJGHC clinical incident management system, including the notification and investigation of serious adverse events and processes. This includes responding to SAC 1 and where needed, ‘major’ clinical incident investigations, monitoring their progress, open disclosure and recommendation implementation and evaluation.
Provides expert advice and guidance to hospitals and services on clinical incident management and open disclosure.
Collaborates and supports key stakeholders to develop and implement contemporary clinical incident management processes.
Provides expert advice in clinical incident investigation methods including RCA, London Protocol and Healthcare Failure Mode and Effect Analysis.
Ensures Lessons Learned from clinical incidents are disseminated to staff throughout SJGHC.
Implements and maintains the SJGHC Open Disclosure Framework.
Provides expert advice and supports organisation-wide learning, ensuring that problems are identified, variations, areas of concern and lessons learned are communicated to caregivers and management to take remedial or preventative actions.
Leads the governance of clinical safety data entered into the CIMS across SJGHC, including completion to timelines, quality, and thoroughness of investigation and closure of recommendations.
Examines clinical incidents to assure their quality and objectivity.
Escalates serious (or otherwise noteworthy) clinical incidents to the Chief Medical Officer, Chief Nursing Officer, and other Group Executives and CEOs.
You will demonstrate strong analytical skills, with the ability to collect, organise, analyse and disseminate large amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to undertake organisational quality improvement activities and develop quality reports, will be essential for this role.
To succeed you will possess a relevant tertiary qualification in health care or related field and a minimum of 3 years’ experience in a healthcare clinical incident management role. You will have highly developed time management and organisational skills, with proven effectiveness in relation to meeting deadlines. Experience in the use of incident management systems and reporting functionality is required for this position.

Salary : $185,650 to $206,278, plus 11.5% superannuation
