IPS is a leading technical supplier to the events industry – there aren’t many major events without a bit of our equipment involved somewhere! IPS works in three key business areas: Staging & Structures, Technical Production and Trade Hire. Within each of these areas, projects involve staging, rigging, lighting, sound, video and power equipment, which forms the majority of the IPS hire inventory. Working for IPS will provide an opportunity to be involved with a variety of projects, from supplying staging for a local school play to a providing full technical production for an outdoor music festival.
The Full Time Head of Lighting role is based at our busy Milton Keynes warehouse. This role requires excellent technical knowledge across all the IPS Lighting portfolio with strong communication and leadership skills. The role will cover the management of the lighting team, while keeping on top of the latest development in equipment and assisting with system designs and business plans for equipment purchasing, the Head of Lighting will insure that all lighting staff are kept up to date through in-house and manufacturer training on latest equipment and techniques improving IPS core skills in line with manufacturers developments. IPS regularly works all over the UK, and occasionally further afield so a flexible approach to work would be advantageous. This role requires someone who is proactive and energetic and the ability to interact appropriately with other employees, other industry professionals, and develop relationships with clients and suppliers.
Reporting to the Managing Director, the ideal candidate must demonstrate a high technical knowledge of lighting equipment and the processes used within the events industry, excellent teamwork and leadership skills.
Role:
Within the role of Head of Lighting, the following areas of work would regularly be expected to be completed:
– To adhere to all Company and industry health and safety regulations; being responsible for your own health and safety and that of others, ensuring fire precautions and emergency procedures are compiled within the warehouse.
– Ensure compliance within the Company’s written standard practice and departmental procedures as detailed in the Handbook – suggesting alterations and/or improvements where appropriate.
– Manage daily work planning for department and forecasting workload.
– To service, maintain and prepare equipment efficiently and to the highest possible standards.
– Check equipment in and out using Hiretrack software.
– Assist where required with equipment investment decisions.
– Responsible for advanced maintenance, including software and firmware upgrades to ensure all equipment is running the same version of the most up to date releases
– Inspect all equipment to ensure compliance with relevant statutory regulations, including ISITEE (In-Service Inspection and Testing of Electrical Equipment)
– Notify the Warehouse Manager of shortages of equipment or consumable items at the earliest opportunity.
– Maintain the Lighting Department and work areas in a clean and orderly state.
– Undertake other tasks and responsibilities based upon the changing needs of the business.
– To identify and undertake appropriate training and development for your department.
– To identify and advise the company of the latest equipment, trends and techniques, especially within the lighting area.
– To act as an ambassador when required for IPS in the representation of the Company at exhibitions, internal/external meetings and events and all other times.
– To Maintain Strict confidentiality at all times.
Requirements:
– Excellent technical skills gained through experience working with relevant equipment.
– Team Management and leadership
– Excellent communication skills
– Administrative skills including use of Microsoft Office applications will be required. Previous experience of Hiretrack software, would be desirable, but not essential.
– Understanding that the role will require both physical and technical ability.
– Willingness to work paid overtime, including some anti-social hours.
– Passport and Eligibility to work in the UK.
Beneficial Abilities :
– Fork Lift Licence is desirable but not essential
Benefits:
As a full time employee, your salary will be dependent on experience and will be based on a 42.5 hour working week, paid monthly on the last working day of the month. Overtime may be available and will be paid after completion of the standard 42.5 hours. IPS has free onsite parking.
IPS offers 20 days paid annual leave, plus bank holidays. This will increase to 22 days after two years’ service and will increase by one day for each year completed up to a maximum of 25 days. Statutory sick pay and enhanced maternity/paternity benefits will be payable as appropriate.
IPS regularly provides training to employees as appropriate and will help staff wishing to gain skills in areas helpful to the business, including forklift license courses, and product specific training. IPS will provide safety boots and gloves, as well as branded T-Shirts and jackets which form the workplace uniform.
IPS offers private health care to all staff with two years’ service through Vitality Health. All staff with under two years’ service will have access to Vitality at work.
