There are vacancies for four full-time Communication and Interaction Strategic Advisory Teacher posts. These new posts have been created in recognition of the increase in numbers of children and young people who are neurodivergent, and the high representation of children and young people with these needs, who are struggling to attend school regularly, or at all.
The posts are open to qualified teachers who have demonstrable experience of providing appropriate support and provision for children and young people with complex special educational needs and/or disabilities, particularly in the area of Communication and Interaction. Previous leadership experience, especially within special educational needs, would be desirable.
You will be part of Schools and Families Specialist Services (SFSS) and will play a key role in developing a strategic response for children and young people who are identified as neurodivergent and who are experiencing difficulties with accessing education. These posts are intended to complement the work of the various teams within SFSS across Nottinghamshire, which will necessitate county-wide travel. In addition, you will provide some case work capacity relating to this cohort of children and young people.
Each of the four posts will take responsibility for covering one of the following areas. It is envisaged that two posts will be focused on support for non-attenders: one will provide a link with the Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Team; and the fourth post will link with Early Years SFSS. Applicants are asked to explicitly state which of the areas they wish to be considered for within their application:
- Supporting non-attenders experiencing a gradual decline in attendance over a period of time; or non-attenders who have experienced a crisis and whose attendance has stopped abruptly. Linking with the Health-Related Education Team (HRET) and Integrated Children’s Disability Service (ICDS), as appropriate.
- Linking with the SEMH team/SBAPs to ensure the appropriate identification and provision. Act as an advisor on enhanced provision across Key Stages 2 – 4.
- Supporting Early Years SFSS with transition e.g. first admission; EHC and funding processes; and Autism Education Trust Training. Quality Assurance of the graduated response for C & I. Act as an advisor on nurture/enhanced provision across Early Years.
You will be expected to be very flexible and will need to be highly motivated and have a good understanding of the school curriculum at all phases. You should have a positive approach to inclusion and have a clear understanding of the strategies used to develop inclusive practice in schools and settings for pupils with SEND, particularly in relation to Communication and Interaction. You will be required to undertake case work across the county, for which a full driving licence is required. The posts will sit within the Communication and Interaction Team, as part of Schools and Families Specialist Services.
These posts will attract a Teaching and Learning Responsibility 2a) payment and an SEN point.
