About the Role
As a Senior Engineer, your role is pivotal in driving technical excellence and innovation. Reporting to the Chief Technology Officer, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of complex software solutions, ensuring adherence to best practices and architectural standards. Your responsibilities will include mentoring and coaching junior team members, providing technical guidance and support, and actively participating in code reviews to maintain code quality and integrity. Additionally, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and translate them into scalable and robust technical solutions.
Key Duties, Responsibilities & Tasks
Your responsibilities will encompass a diverse range of key duties, including but not limited to:
- Assisting with project delivery by designing and implementing new features to meet project requirements and enhance product functionality.
- Crafting and executing comprehensive test suites to validate application integrity.
- Defining the technical direction of features you work on, ensuring alignment with project objectives and architectural standards.
- Updating existing code by refining code quality, implementing best practices, and optimising performance.
- Identifying performance improvements.
- Integrating third-party services to enrich application capabilities and streamline operations.
- Providing modular application code.
- Keeping technical documentation up to date and to a high standard.
- Providing guidance and mentorship to junior team members.
- Overseeing and supporting the application infrastructure, ensuring reliability, scalability, and security.
- Reviewing code work for accuracy and functionality.
- Efficiently delegating to team members, leveraging their strengths and fostering collaboration to achieve project goals.
Attributes
We expect you to demonstrate the following abilities and skills:
ESSENTIAL
- Excellent knowledge of the LEMP stack.
- Passionate about modern software engineering best practice.
- Knowledge of OO PHP and MVC.
- Experience of the Laravel framework (or similar).
- Proficient in HTML5, CSS3, jQuery.
- Knowledge of relational databases.
- Previous experience developing RESTful web services and scalable applications.
- Experience working with APIs (utilising and creating your own).
- Experience with Version Control – Git.
- Passion for User Experience (UX) and Customer Experience (CX).
- Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate within all levels of a business.
- Good problem solver with a passion for using the latest technologies.
- Team player, friendly, approachable with a flexible attitude.
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to spot errors and question information received.
- Ability to work under pressure and manage deadlines.
- Knowledge of DevOps Principles – CI/CD, Automation etc.
DESIRABLE
- Familiarity with Agile Methodologies.
- Experience with Cloud Hosting (AWS).
- Understanding of TDD methodology.
- Understanding of Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with financial systems and calculations as relevant to a lending business.
Hours: 37.5hr per week – Hybrid work pattern
Pay: £65,000 - £70,000 DOE
