Salary: Band 7, £30,117 – £32,772 per annum
Location: Agile, working between home and Middle Engine Lane, Newcastle
Hours/Contract: 12 month fixed term / secondment opportunity

The role
Here at Northumbria Police, we think our region is amazing! It takes a great deal of people from different backgrounds, with diverse skills and experience to serve our force area effectively. This could be the perfect time for you to join us in our Corporate Development Department as a Governance and Planning Adviser.
Our Governance and Planning Team, within the Corporate Development Department, engage with area commands, internal departments, the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner and external bodies to deliver an effective governance and decision-making framework, which supports Northumbria Police to maintain high levels of performance and service delivery.
What you’ll do
- You will provide professional advice and updates on all aspects of corporate planning, governance, strategy, policy, organisational learning and risk management.
- Quickly build positive working relationships and liaise with business leads.
- Prepare, scrutinise and quality assure reports for strategic meetings.
- Provide secretariat and corporate governance support to strategic meetings in line with our governance and decision-making framework.
- Analyse published reports; summarise in a succinct manner to inform executive decision-making.
- Develop, review and quality assure force instructions.
What you’ll bring
- Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).
- Strong planning and organisation skills.
- Attention to detail – particularly in written communication.
- Ability to work well as part of a team and independently.
- Self-motivation and great work ethic.
- Demonstrate personal responsibility for achieving deadlines.
- A good working knowledge of Microsoft packages (e.g. Excel, Office, Teams).

Terms of appointment
This is a secondment/ fixed term role subject to a six-month probationary period.
If you are successful in your application, you will have a 6 month probation period with us where you will be unable to apply for any other post advertised internally or externally.
