The role
As a Paralegal, you will support the Legal team in the provision of professional legal services and you will ensure that CIPD’s contracts are consistent, relevant and commercial.
What you’ll be doing
- Supporting the legal team to review and draft standard contracts to be entered into by the CIPD including supply of services agreements, non-disclosure agreements, terms and conditions for website use, prize draw terms and terms of business.
- Supporting CIPD’s data protection compliance framework including acting as a first point of contact for CIPD’s network of data champions, supporting with training and providing updates on relevant data protection issues to raise awareness of privacy matters, assisting on CIPD’s response to data subject access requests and maintaining compliance records.
- Undertaking legal research and providing timely and practical legal advice on non-contentious issues and routine queries to a wide range of internal clients.
- Providing risk-based advice to internal clients to manage and resolve customer/supplier disputes and complaints.
- Developing and maintaining precedents and disseminate appropriate guidance to facilitate standard practices across CIPD for contracts and data protection and delivering appropriate training.
- Liaising with internal stakeholders to maintain CIPD’s register (Contracts Management Library/CML) of contracts and acting as a first point of contact for CML and general legal queries.
- Participating in other projects and tasks as identified by Head of Legal to contribute to the smooth operation of the team.
What you’ll need to be successful
- Law degree or equivalent qualification is essential.
- Relevant experience working as a paralegal, in house experience.
- Good working knowledge of contract & commercial law with experience of drafting and advising on standard terms of business and supplier contracts.
- Understanding of data protection law and willingness to learn so that you can help embed CIPD’s data protection compliance programme.
- Good interpersonal and effective communication skills to be able to liaise with people at all levels and explain legal terms in a digestible format.
- Good commercial acumen; ability to use own initiative and technical expertise to provide practical solutions.
- Ability to prioritise with high level of attention to detail.
- Business focused and risk aware, demonstrable ability to be pragmatic while balancing legal and other risks consistent with achieving the organisation’s objectives.
- A good team player with the ability to work flexibly and to tight deadlines is important, as well as being able to work independently and efficiently.
- Experience using tools, spreadsheets and databases.
