About the role
This is a fixed term contract for approximately 12 months. This is a hybrid role which requires regular presence at the Bar Hill Site.
We are currently seeking a Temporary Customs Compliance Officer to join our leading manufacturing, coding, and marking company. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in managing our customs compliance processes, ensuring adherence to HMRC and international trading regulations. This position is ideal for someone with a strong background in customs compliance, looking for a challenging and rewarding role in a dynamic environment.
Key responsibilities
- Oversee the customs internal control processes, documentation, and HMRC customs inquiries to ensure full compliance.
- Manage the duty deferment account, including reconciliation of transactions, payments, and reclaiming import VAT.
- Collaborate with IT to enhance and automate customs processes for efficiency and accuracy.
- Stay abreast of changes in customs regulations, taking necessary actions to comply and communicate updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Develop and maintain comprehensive customs compliance procedures and program documentation, covering aspects such as Tariff classification, country of origin, FTA eligibility, and Customs valuation.
- Serve as the key point of contact for trade compliance across customer support teams, distributors, and other external parties.
- Ensure the accuracy and compliance of Customs entries and support documents for clearances.
- Deliver regular Customs compliance training and conduct periodic audits to uphold and improve compliance standards.
- Assist in investigations of non-compliance incidents and liaise with customs officials and regulatory bodies to maintain compliance.
- Maintain meticulous records of all customs-related documents and transactions.
About you

With a hands-on, "roll-up your sleeves" approach, you'll be a pivotal force in navigating the complex landscape of international trade regulations.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Completion of professional training in Customs matters from a recognized training body is highly valued.
- Demonstrated strong working experience in international trade, goods and services, and a thorough understanding of Incoterms.
- Demonstrable expertise in the application of UK, EU, and US import and export controls, alongside a comprehensive understanding of global customs regulations and international trade principles.
- Experience with HMRC audits, mastery of Excise Regulations, and adeptness at interpreting Rules of Origin are particularly desirable.
