Position
About the International Climate Politics Hub (ICPH) and the role
The International Team at the European Climate Foundation is searching for a Senior Associate (parental leave cover) to support the activities of the International Climate Politics Hub (ICPH) Secretariat. The Senior Associate role is an exciting opportunity to work closely with the ICPH Secretariat team and a global network who work together to increase international political ambition and action on climate action.
The ICPH is a global network of actors working to encourage and strengthen politics to facilitate an increase in global climate ambition by linking the ‘inside’ government climate diplomacy with the ‘outside’ climate action and movement. The ICPH network works in cooperation with partners from around the world to ensure that every opportunity – directly or indirectly related to climate – can be used as a launchpad for countries and non-State actors to leverage climate ambition and increase climate action over this decisive decade.
The Senior Associate will help ensure the implementation of the ICPH strategy primarily through budget oversight, fundraising support, and delivery of strategic regranting portfolio. The role will suit a candidate with excellent attention to detail, organisational capabilities, and relationship skills. Experience with strategic regranting is advantageous.
This parental leave cover will cover a period of 9 months (September 2024 – May 2025).
Key Responsibilities
- Fundraising: support the ICPH Director, working closely with the ECF Strategic Partnerships team, to develop and deliver fundraising overviews, concept notes, pitches, reporting; build and nurture strong relationships with ICPH funders, including being the ICPH touch point, regular check-ins and updating on ICPH work; facilitate engagement between ICPH funders and network as/where appropriate.
- Strategic budget management, grant-making, L&I: support the ICPH senior leadership with: navigating the ECF internal budget process; budget ownership, overview, monitoring and updating; managing budget contracts; engagement with ECF finance and budget colleagues; grant-making strategy, docket planning and programming; monitoring and evaluating progress and impact of grants, assessing the impact of the grant-making on the overall ICPH strategy and impact.
- Relationship management and strategic communication: in coordination with the ICPH leadership and team: liaise with key partners and colleagues (particularly on budget and regranting) to ensure trusted relationships, learning and refining, timely gathering and dissemination of intel. Ensure strategic alignment between ECF and ICPH strategy, budget, and regranting; engagement in ECF processes, strategic meetings, and retreats.
Requirements
Experience and Competencies:
- At least 5 years of experience in budget and project management;
- Excellent attention to detail, diligence, and reliability; ability to prioritise tasks and to operate independently; strong administrative and project management skills particularly in terms of budget management;
- Agile leader, with the ability to follow through with smart and adaptive implementation of plans;
- Ability to achieve efficient, timely, quality results by directing efforts on expected outcomes, while remaining ready to learn and receive feedback;
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and influencing skills, readiness to engage positively, diligently, patiently, and efficiently with stakeholders and partners across cultures and regions;
- Team-minded attitude, excellent coordination and cooperation skills to work harmoniously with a tight-knit and highly collaborative team;
- Availability to work across time zones while maintaining a healthy work-life balance;
- An understanding of climate philanthropy, international climate diplomacy, and the challenges linked to the delivery of the Paris Agreement would be a plus.
