Cranleigh STEM is working with a revolutionary business that utilises AI, automation, and robotic applications to design and develop new molecules for chemicals and materials.
We are looking for a principal hardware engineer to join its team on a permanent, full-time basis in Glasgow.
As a principal hardware engineer, you will work as part of a driven product development team whose focus is to develop and build automated systems and robotic platforms. You will bring your knowledge in advanced mechatronics and commercial-grade hardware development to spearhead projects from concept through to launch.
Responsibilities
- Develop and improve technologies to meet business needs in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Shape the company's hardware architecture for short-, medium-, and long-term business goals, ensuring efficient, scalable solutions.
- Ensure designs are easy to manufacture and maintain for global deployment.
- Guide hardware implementation, creating processes for high-quality contributions from engineers.
- Assess and introduce new tools and processes to maintain high performance and reliability.
- Improve company efficiency quickly to maximise technology value.
- Implement new processes to reduce costs, increase quality, and improve workflow efficiency.
- Optimise laboratory and company workflows for safety, quality, and scalability.
- Collaborate with various teams to develop and implement high-quality workflows.
- Work with management to improve laboratory efficiency and allocate resources effectively.
- Contribute to long-term plans for company performance improvements.
- Participate in tasks across the company to ensure success.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, design, or equivalent.
- Proven experience in designing, developing, testing, and launching hardware solutions.
- Proven track record in creating successful mechatronics solutions for complex problems.
- Experience with robust and scalable engineered solutions for big data challenges.
- Experience leading interdisciplinary projects in mechanical, electrical/electronic, and software engineering.
- Knowledge of various manufacturing methods (machining, 3D printing, etc.).
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles.
- Experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Clear communication with external partners for efficient delivery of materials.
- Strong record of innovation, supported by patents.
- Ability to assess and improve engineering team performance.
- A recognised leader in hardware engineering.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills.
