What are we looking for?
To act as direct finance partner to Howden Markets Business Units to help continually improve financial performance and decision-making through reporting, analysis, and planning. Acts as the interface between Business Units and Management Accounts to resolve queries in relation to management accounts. Ensure appropriate business reporting functions are set up allowing each Business Unit to measure their Key Financial Performance Indicators and satisfy their statutory and regulatory reporting responsibilities with regards to financial data. Ensures that all responsibilities are completed in accordance with Company policies.
What will you be doing?
Planning/Reporting:
- Provides high quality and timely advice, information, analysis, reporting, and interpretation to support effective decision making and performance management.
- Leads business units in the setting of annual budgets and mid-year forecasts.
- Production of finance packs with commentary.
- Manages assigned projects and contributes to other projects as required.
- Provides ad-hoc, relevant management information to senior management as required.
Technical:
- Develops strong working relationships with business leaders and an understanding of the business to provide tailored finance support to each team.
- Understands the drivers of business performance, identifying trends, areas of opportunity or remedial action and influence the implementation of initiatives to address these.
- Challenges the Business Unit relating to observed weaknesses and improvement opportunities.
- Prepares financial models for company acquisitions.
- Supports the improvement of management reporting and analysis.
- Helps to maintain and improve financial reporting IT systems.
- Understands the current business processes and assists in the development of systems and procedures to ensure strong financial controls are run across all business units within the Operating Entity.
- Assists in the annual production of the company’s statutory financial statements.
- Supports senior managers to deliver Group financial objectives.
- Keeps informed of all regulatory and legal changes which impact on the job role.
- Ensures up-to-date records are maintained at all times on the Company systems.
- Responds appropriately to urgent issues as they arise.
Policy, Process and Procedures:
- Interprets instructions and issues arising, and then implements actions according to policies and procedures.
Environment, Customer Focus and Relationships:
- Develops strong relationships with their Business Units, acting as first point of contact for Finance related matters.
- Maintains effective relationships across the Hyperion Group’s Finance function.
- Responds to the clients (both internal and external) requirements as appropriate.
- Behaves with all clients (both internal and external) fairly and ethically.
- Shares information that could be beneficial to the Operating Entity/Group.
And what do we need from you?
Knowledge/Experience
Essential:
- Preparation of management accounts.
- Implementation and improvement of processes and controls.
- Provision of support to one or more business units, e.g. commercial analysis, budgets & forecasts etc.
Desirable:
- Preference will be given to applicants who have worked in Financial Services, in particular the insurance sector.
- Previous supervisory experience.
- Audit background.
- Insurance experience.
- Production of statutory accounts.
- Exposure to Anaplan (Finance system).
Skills/Behaviours
- Accuracy and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
- Able to develop effective business relationships.
- Ambitious and self-motivated.
- Ability to react positively to change.
- Ability to think laterally and solve problems using own initiative and challenge the status quo where necessary.
- MS Office Literate (advanced Excel – nested vlookups, data manipulation, pivot tables etc).
Qualifications
- ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualified.
- Minimum 5 years PQE.
