CONSULTANT IN PAEDIATRIC ENDOCRINOLOGY WITH AN INTEREST IN NEUROENDOCRINOLOGY
The Endocrinology service at Great Ormond Street Hospital is seeking a 0.7 WTE substantive Consultant Paediatric Endocrinology post with an interest in Neuroendocrinology. The post-holder will join ten existing consultants leading multi-disciplinary teams in paediatric endocrinology, managing complex general endocrine disorders and a cohort of patients with complex neuroendocrine conditions.
The post-holder will work with colleagues to develop the neuroendocrine service, support the congenital hypothyroidism service, and commit to an outreach clinic four times per year. The role is closely aligned with clinical and molecular research at the UCL GOS Institute of Child Health, and the post-holder will be encouraged to develop an active research programme in rare endocrine disease and neuroendocrinology. Additionally, the post-holder will participate in teaching activities and supervise trainees.
Main duties of the job
The post-holder will participate in a 1 in 8 attending/on-call commitment. Attending duties include on-call cover for a week at a time, conducting daily ward rounds, reviewing endocrine and diabetes inpatients, and supervising junior doctor management of outliers. On-call duties are non-residential but may involve additional emergency duties under exceptional circumstances. Endocrine inpatients referred during attending weeks will be retained by the attending consultant.

Person specification
- GMC specialist registration (obtained by designated start date)
- Membership of the Royal College of Physicians/Paediatricians or equivalent MRCPCH/FRCPCH
- CCT/CCST in Endocrinology (or within 6 months at time of interview) or equivalent training and experience (eligible for CESR)
- CCT in Paediatric Endocrinology (or within 6 months at time of interview) or equivalent training and experience
- Higher degree – PhD, MD or equivalent
- Formal teaching qualification
Experience/Knowledge
- Extensive experience in Paediatric Endocrinology
- Experience and training in Paediatric Neuro-endocrinology
- Experience of teaching students and multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience of leading Clinical Audit processes
- Published research in peer-reviewed journals in relevant areas
- Awareness of Clinical Governance through quality or safety improvement projects
- Level 3 Safeguarding Training
- BLS Training
- Experience of recruiting patients to clinical research trials
- Experience of working in shared care clinics and clinical networks
- Experience of clinical leadership or management
