As University Hospitals Dorset , we are a three-site acute trust with ‘university hospital’ status through our partnership with Bournemouth University, working with an annual budget of £730m.
We offer highly regarded health services, employing some 10,000 staff. Our ambitious £250m estates programme is well on the way to delivering state-of-the-art facilities over the next two years to meet the current and future healthcare needs of the populations we serve.
In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty with over seven miles of sandy beaches, you’ll find inspirational opportunities to achieve your perfect work/life balance. With the New Forest and the Purbecks on our doorstep, we’re also less than three hours from London by road or train. The thriving towns of Poole, Bournemouth, and Christchurch give way to idyllic villages and unspoilt landscapes just minutes from our hospitals.
We believe that having a diverse workforce, and allowing people to be themselves, is essential in ensuring we offer an inclusive, welcoming, and productive place to work.
We especially welcome applications from minority groups in the community who may be underrepresented in our workforce.
At UHD, our active staff network groups are the Women's Network, Black Asian Minority Ethnic Group (BAME), Pride Network, European (EU), Pro Ability Staff Network, and the Armed Forces Support Group.
As a Trust, we are proudly signed up to the Disability Confident and Armed Forces Covenant guaranteed interview schemes.
Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a friendly multi-disciplinary team consisting of Consultant in Rehabilitation Medicine, Prosthetists, Orthotists, Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist, Nurse, Counsellor, and administration staff delivering specialist care to patients with limb loss. This service in Bournemouth is on the South Coast, with easy access to Southampton and London, and surrounded by the Solent, Jurassic Coast, and the New Forest for watersports, walking, and cycling.
This role requires an active UK HCPC Registration.
Base Location: Bournemouth
Interview Date: TBC
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dynamic, motivated, and forward-thinking podiatrist with experience of working with patients who primarily are diabetic, and/or smokers who have vascular insufficiency. Experience of working with patients with musculoskeletal problems and experience in the prescription of foot orthotics would be a great advantage.
As amputees coming into our service are at high risk of losing their surviving limb, you will play a key role in assessing and treating their limbs alongside other members of the MDT. These patients will not only need your management of their surviving lower leg, but also input to their amputated residual limb as the new 'end of leg' transferring weight through their prosthesis.
Patients will benefit from your education both individually and in group sessions where appropriate. In addition, specific podiatric education sessions to the clinical team within the service and for those treating our amputees in community therapy services will help improve the overall care of this patient group. You will also undertake audits for discussion within the department, as well as benefit from improving your broader knowledge by attending education meetings led by other members of the clinical team.

There are no plans to move this service at this time.
