Responsibilities
We are currently recruiting for an Associate to join our Financing & Advisory Group based in Sydney, Australia to support the origination and execution activities across a broad range of structured finance transactions, particularly within the Mining, Metals, and related industries sectors. The candidate will also work with other business lines within Financing & Advisory such as Infrastructure, Digital, Energy, and Real Estate. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to build close relationships with teams onshore and within the organization more broadly on a regional and global basis. Primary responsibilities include:
- Preparing, customizing, optimizing, and maintaining the financial model supporting advisory mandates, including creating and running financial scenarios and sensitivities.
- Interrogating the financial model for financing mandates, including creating and running sensitivities and checking integrity.
- Reviewing and supervising financial modelling tasks undertaken by junior staff, and completing more complex modelling tasks where required.
- Staying abreast of developments across sectors, particularly Mining & Metals finance, as well as current transactions and opportunities in the market.
- Providing day-to-day transaction support including structuring, pricing, preparing credit applications, undertaking detailed financial analyses and due diligence analyses, and assisting the deal team leader to provide best-in-class lending and advisory services to the client base.
- Respecting all relevant compliance practices and other internal requirements in relation to the execution of advisory & lending transactions.
- Managing internal processes relating to the arranging and advisory business (e.g., updating databases, credit application writing, completing relevant internal system-based processes).
- Identifying potential marketing opportunities and preparing pitch material (including reviewing feasibility studies, detailed analysis of financial models, etc.).
- Starting to establish a network of contacts at key clients and prospective clients.
- Supervision and development of junior team members including appropriate delegation and review of certain tasks suitable to the skills and experience of those junior team members while maintaining a high quality of overall team execution.
Qualifications, Experience & Knowledge Required:
- University degree in a relevant discipline (Finance, Engineering, Business, Commerce, Law) or a professional financial qualification.
- Postgraduate qualifications considered favorably.
- Experience in Mining & Metals finance and sector knowledge, and/or another structured finance environment utilizing similar tools, processes, and procedures will also be favorably considered.
- 3-5 years of relevant experience.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel including strong financial modelling skills.
- Experience in generating pitch material that is clear, structured, compelling, and comprehensive in addressing clients’ needs.
- Strong numerical skills with an advanced understanding of accounting concepts, financial statements, and cash flows.
