The Virginia Economic Development Partnership (VEDP) is seeking an Attorney to work in the Office of the General Counsel to provide guidance to VEDP on legal issues and policy interpretation and development.
Responsibilities:
- Draft, negotiate, and enforce agreements involving economic development incentive grant programs
- Assist with the application of the Virginia Freedom of Information Act in conducting public meetings and respond to records requests
- Advise staff on the development and use of economic development incentives
- Assist with the review and development of economic development-related legislation and policy
- Conduct other legal work to support VEDP
Skills:
- Comprehensive knowledge of relevant federal and Virginia laws and constitutions and the operation of Virginia government
- Knowledge of the economic development process and relevant laws related to economic development preferred
- Ability to plan, develop, and implement projects
- Ability to negotiate and resolve problems
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Demonstrated history of working with minimal supervision and managing multiple deadlines is required
Experience:
- At least five years experience as a licensed attorney
- Graduation from an ABA accredited law school and membership in the Virginia State Bar (or eligibility for membership) is required
