SUNY Broome Community College is a comprehensive community college located in the scenic Southern Tier of New York. The College has over 7,700 students annually, and services over 6,100 students per semester in Liberal Arts, Business & Professional Studies, Health Sciences, and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs. Job Description:
SUNY Broome Community College is currently accepting applications for a part-time, Professional Tutor for Nursing. The Professional Tutor assists and guides Nursing students in their coursework, providing academic support and integrating study and learning strategies to promote independent learning. The Professional Tutor in Nursing will work under the supervision and guidance of the Nursing program faculty and Associate Dean, and directly reports to the Coordinator of the Tutoring Program.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Attends the mandatory tutor training session to become familiar with the learning process, student needs (study strategies, English as a second language), and campus services (Learning Assistance Department, Accessibility Resource Office, Counseling Center, Dean of Students Office, etc.). Ongoing tutoring development activities are also offered and essential.
- Provides academic support in nursing coursework.
- Meets and works with students in small groups (frequency may vary).
- Provides students with study strategies and tools to promote active learning.
- Meets with Faculty to discuss tutoring and student progress as needed.
- Attends staff meetings and in-service as needed.
- Serves as a resource for other tutors in Nursing.
- Maintains daily/weekly time sheets.
- Other duties as assigned by the Coordinator.
Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or the equivalent combination of education (RN degree in Nursing)and work experience.
One year of experience working with students in an academic setting, preferred.

Training:
Participation in initial training and ongoing tutor development activities as required.
Additional Information:
The hourly rate for this position is $29.17.
