Description of Department: SOFE designs distinctive programs for all new undergraduate students, which provide critical information, resources, and connections to the broader campus community. Additionally, SOFE facilitates the coordination of an extended orientation and welcome week (Laker Launch); supports the transitions of other student populations such as graduate students, international students, first generation students, etc.; develops and oversees family engagement opportunities throughout the year; and stewards the Division's student success initiatives. Description of Responsibilities:
Student Orientation
• Develop, plan, and implement a high profile, dynamic, and student-centered orientation program for all new and transfer students at the start of the Fall and Spring semesters in collaboration with key campus stakeholders across all divisions
• Supervise, Train, and Evaluate the Graduate Assistant - Student Success
• Develop and assess student learning outcomes for the Orientation Program, utilizing input from students to determine program effectiveness in learning and belongingness
• Recruit, select, train, and supervise a large and diverse undergraduate student leader team to support and deliver orientation programs. (Laker Leaders)
• Assist in the development and implementation of the New York City Orientation Program, a satellite program of Summer Orientation that seeks to engage students in the Downstate Region
• Serve on the Opening Committee, assisting in the development of a large-scale welcome week program for incoming new and transfer students at Oswego
• Recruit, select, train, and supervise a large and diverse undergraduate student leader team to support and deliver the Laker Launch program. (Laker Launch Crewmates)
• Teach GST 304 - New Student Transition Theory - a mandatory course for new Laker Leaders
• Plan and implement the annual Late Night Breakfast Program in collaboration with Auxiliary Services
• Partner with colleagues across campus and in Enrollment Management to advance the retention of students upon admission and once matriculated.
• Develop a mastery of learning outcomes-based approaches, including the Curricular Approach. In collaboration with SOFE Leadership, implement student programs, events, programs, and other initiatives that support student learning opportunities related to department's learning outcomes and engender a sense of belonging.
• Manage departmental marketing and communication related to promotion of events and programming, including but not limited to Laker Launch, Orientation, Transition Programming, and the Late Night Breakfast
• Assist in the development and implementation of initiatives within all programs to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion; and engagement and student success.
• Serve on a variety of college committees, as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree at time of appointment
• Experience in Student Affairs
• Excellent administrative, communication, leadership and decision-making skills; flexible and adaptable to working in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to be self-directed, while comfortable working within a team
Preferred Qualifications:
• Relevant post-graduate degree and/or 1-2 years professional experience in student affairs or a related field
• Prior experience in Student Orientation, First-Year Experience, New Student Programming, and/or Student Activities
• Demonstrated understanding of how to increase student sense of belonging and engagement
