Nucor Steel West Virginia is Nucor’s new sheet mill with advanced steelmaking capabilities and lower carbon emissions. This is a greenfield project, which is estimated to be fully operational after two years of construction. The new steel mill will employee 800 full-time teammates producing up to 3 million tons per year at one of the most technologically advanced sheet mills. This advanced manufacturing facility is to be located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains in close proximity to both Huntington and Charleston, WV.
Process Automation EngineerThe Process Automation Engineer will work alongside the maintenance and operations teams to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the plant. While working as part of the process automation team, the engineer will lead by example with respect to safety, reliability, quality, costs, process improvement, and project management. The engineer will be responsible for the level 1 automation systems and ensure the optimum performance of equipment for plant
operations through continual improvement initiatives.
The level ll distinction is in reference to the automation system architecture and is not indicative of seniority or degree of responsibility. The level ll systems will consist of different PLCs, HMIs, industrial communication networks, distributed remote I/O, drives and motor controls, hydraulic controls, etc. In addition to auxiliary controls like hydraulic pump control or product sequencing, the engineer should also be able to work on more complex subsystems such as line tension control, line speed control, mill stand control, furnace control, etc. This role requires the ability to understand, troubleshoot, and modify the level 1
systems according to operational needs. The engineer should not only be able to understand the underlying technology making up the level 1 system, but also able and willing to learn the sheet steel making process to aid in analyzing and solving process problems.
Safety is the most important part of all jobs within Nucor; therefore, candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to initiate, lead, and uphold safety policies, practices, procedures, and housekeeping standards at all times.
