Are you a committed and passionate Environmental professional looking to take the next step in your career? Look no further! Capital Power Corporation is seeking an innovative and results-oriented Senior Advisor, Environment to join our HSSE team.
Reporting to the Director, Environment, you will be accountable for the provision of environmental services to our Arlington Valley and Harquahala, facilities. Through management of contractors and in collaboration with on-site staff, State, and Federal agencies, the role is accountable for the successful execution of the environmental permit and applicable regulatory requirements. You will work closely with and be accountable to site management for environmental support.
You will contribute to our team by:
Assisting employees, supervisors, and managers in understanding and implementing internal environmental standards, while guaranteeing adherence to regulations, permits, and approvals.
Preparing all necessary reporting as required by applicable facility permits (Title V, NPDES etc.).
Coordinating and providing guidance to meet all stack testing requirements (RATA’s, Part 60, Part 75, NSPS and all other stack testing required by applicable permits).
Supporting the coordination of water and waste sampling and reporting requirements as per permits and applicable regulations.
Supporting all requirements associated with Spill Prevention, Control, and Counter Measure Plan (SPCC) or Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP).
Supervising environmental consultants as required, effectively managing both scheduling and budget while assessing adherence to policies, standards, regulatory requirements, and mitigation of risks.
Supporting development and maintenance of site-specific environmental documentation and procedures.
Supporting ongoing maintenance of the Environmental Management System and associated procedures.
Preparing and/or supporting environmental regulatory reporting for operations and other Corporate reporting as necessary.
Providing environmental training as required to facility operations and management teams.
Supporting the preparation of environmental permit amendments or renewals as required.
Following up on environmental incidents to ensure accurate notification to regulatory authorities, root-cause analysis, and sufficient resolution.
Demonstrating sound judgement in the interpretation of statutes, regulations, codes and standards. Liaising with local government, public, industry and Native American Tribe authorities when required.
What you will bring to the role:
Education:
University degree in Engineering or Natural/General Sciences or Technical degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, or equivalent.
Education equivalency may be considered.
Experience:
Minimum 5 years related experience.
Strong understanding of environmental legislation, laws, and regulations, and the ability to gather updates and changes.
Thorough understanding of environmental policy, environmental aspects, and environmental management systems.
Strong foundation in the sciences.
Thorough understanding of CEMS and reporting requirements.
Technical Skills:
Writing technical reports including details with respect to environmental laws and regulations.
Ability to communicate through various office technologies (Microsoft Teams/teleconference/online meetings) required.
Good understanding of power plant operations and associated environmental risk.
Strong data management and Excel experience.
Strong regulatory application skills to prepare approval amendments and explanation letters to government authorities.
Working Conditions:
This position will provide support to both our Arlington Valley and Harquahala facilities and may be required to support other US based operating facilities on an as assigned basis.
Travel expectations include potential for occasional travel to other Capital Power sites and to our Corporate Office in Canada.
Potential for infrequent after hour calls as part of incident or emergency notification process.
Additional Details:
The pay range for this position is $115,330 to $127,470 per year. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate’s qualifications and prior relevant experience. This position is eligible for health care benefits, retirement benefits, paid time off, and annual bonus.
This position will remain open until a suitable candidate is found.
As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug test is required, subject to applicable law.
